COHEN. Mr. Boris Cohen died April 10, 2008, at home. He was 86.

Born in Paterson, Mr. Cohen lived in Passaic for more than 50 years before moving to Monroe, 16 years ago. Prior to retiring in 1990, he was a certified public accountant and partner with Cole, Pickelny & Co., Totowa, for 21 years. He also owned and operated Well-Worth Penny Bazaar, Inc., Passaic, from 1940 to 1980. He was a magna cum laude graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University, Rutherford. He belonged to the New Jersey State Society of CPAs (retired) and American Institute of CPAs (retired). He was a World War II army veteran, serving as a sergeant and belonging to Clearbrook Post of Jewish War Veterans, Monroe. A member of the Jewish Congregation of Clearbrook, Monroe, he was past president of Adas Israel Congregation, Passaic and a member of B'nai B'rith. He also was founder of Clearbrook Cribbage Club, Monroe, and was a volunteer driver for Jewish Family Services of Middlesex County. He was predeceased by a brother, Samuel and a sister, Midge.

Mr. Cohen is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ruth Gottlieb Cohen; daughter, Susan Cohen-Slavet of Sharon, Mass.; sons and daughters-in-law, Ira and Cathy of Highland Park and Howard and Jan Janken of Charlotte, N.C.; and grandchildren, Benjamin, Andrew and Amanda. Interment at Passaic Junction Cemetery, Saddle Brook. Arrangements by Mt. Sinai Memorial Chapels, East Brunswick. Memorial contributions may be made to a Jewish charity of one's choice.

 

FERBER. Ignaz "Nat" Ferber, M.D., died, April 16, 2008, at home. He was 95.

Born in Vienna, Austria, Dr. Ferber immigrated to the U.S. in 1938, settling in the Bronx. He later lived in Yonkers for 30 years until he moved to Monroe in 1986. Before retiring in 1983, he was a physician for 42 years with a private practice in internal medicine in the Bronx for 30 years. He was also on staff at Bronx Lebanon Hospital for 35 years. He was a 1936 graduate of the University of Vienna Medical School. He was a member of the Bronx County, New York and New Jersey medical societies and the New York Academy of Family Physicians. He was a charter fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and, in May 1980, received the Maimonides Award from the Mount Eden Senior Center for services to the senior community. Dr. Ferber belonged to the Jewish Congregation of Clearbrook and the B'nai B'rith Clearbrook Chapter in Monroe. He was also a past chairperson and life member of the Clearbrook Medical Advisory Panel and the Clearbrook Emergency Committee, also in Monroe. He was predeceased by his wife, Virginia H., and sisters, Grete Kohout and Hanni Schiff.

Dr. Ferber is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Ferber Reder and her husband, Bernard, of Littleton, Colo.; son, Joel of Denver, Colo.; brother, Fred of the Bronx; granddaughter, Dr. Lindsay Reder; and beloved caretaker, Rose Sarpong. Interment at King Solomon Memorial Park, Clifton. Arrangements by Mount Sinai Memorial Chapels, East Brunswick. FISHER. Mr. Barry Saul Fisher of Jackson, and Boynton Beach, Fla., passed away April 18, 2008, at home. He was 69.

Barry grew up in Elizabeth, graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and attended Fairleigh Dickinson University and the University of Illinois. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force as a meteorologist. He loved the beach and met his wife of 43 years, Barabara Landes, Neptune City, on Loch Arbour Beach. A long time resident of Ocean Township, Barry loved the town and served on the recreation committee and coached soccer for many years. He was a long-standing member of Temple Beth Torah, Ocean. He owned Davro Imports and spent more than 40 years in the giftware industry. He was the consummate salesman and there was no one better. Barry was an avid golfer and would never turn down a Gin Rummy game at his favorite place, the Breakwater Beach Club. He will always be remembered for his infectious smile and his never-ending humor. He was predeceased by his mother, Gussie Feldman; his father Louis Fisher; and his sister Lillian Schwartzbach.

Mr. Fisher is survived by his sons, Dr. David of Ocean and Dr. Robert of Suffern, N.Y.; daughters-in-law, Dana and Lori; grandchildren, Natalie, Elena, Marly, and Zack; and many nieces and nephews. GOLDBERG. Mrs. Esther Beller Goldberg died March 31, 2008, at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold. She was 85.

Born in New York City, Mrs. Goldberg lived in Monroe for the last 15 years. Her husband, Seymour, died in 2003.

Mrs. Goldberg is survived by her nephew and niece-in-law, Gary and Sheryl Weine of Morristown; and nieces and nephews-in-law, Wendy and Sandy Sayet of Long Beach, N.Y., and Cindy and Daniel Hamou of Montreal, Canada. Interment at Wellwood Cemetery, Farmingdale, N.Y. Arrangements by Mount Sinai Memorial Chapels, East Brunswick.

 

KUCHINSKY. Mr. David Kuchinsky died April 8, 2008, at home. He was 92.

Born in Newark, Mr. Kuchinsky lived in Hillside, Texas, Plainfield and Scotch Plains before moving to Monroe seven years ago. A graduate of New York University, he was a self-employed certified public accountant for more than 40 years. He had been a partner for more than 25 years in the firm of Kuchinsky & DeRosa CPAs, North Brunswick. He retired in 1985. During World War II he served with the Army 1882nd Service Command Unit. He had been a member of the Amateur Astronomers Inc. of Union County College, Cranford, and had led several total-eclipse excursions by the organization to various locations. He was also a member of the Jewish War Veterans and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and a former member of Temple Beth El in Plainfield and the Concordia Jewish Center. Besides spending time with his family, he enjoyed camping, sailing, singing, and reading historical works.

Mr. Kuchinsky is survived by his wife, Gloria D. (Herman); son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Joy of Highland Park; daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Mervin Dickinson of Franklin Park and Ellen and Bruce Varnum of Alpharetta, Ga.; grandchildren, Michelle and Ruben Kuchinsky, Edward and Adam Dickinson, Laurel Schumer and Sarah Varnum; and four great-grandchildren. LANDWEHR. Mr. Louis Landwehr of Philadelphia, Pa., formerly of Lakewood, died April 17, 2008, at Penn Center Rehab & Care, Philadelphia. He was 84.

Born in Brooklyn, Mr. Landwehr lived in Lakewood before moving to Philadelphia seven years ago. He owned and operated Garden State Foliage in Jackson for many years before retiring seven years ago. He was a former member of Congregation Sons of Israel, Lakewood. His beloved wife, Audrey, died in 1985.

Mr. Landwehr is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Andrea and Steve Muzychka of Philadelphia; and many nieces and nephews. Interment at Mt. Sinai Cemetery, Lakewood. LINDEMAN. Mrs. Muriel Lindeman of Leisure Village West, Manchester, died April 13, 2008, at home. She was 75.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, Muriel lived in Parsippany, where she raised her family, before settling in Manchester 17 years ago. She was active in Jewish causes such as Hadassah, ORT and the Yiddish Club in Leisure Village West and was a long-time member of Congregation B'nai Israel in Toms River. Her daughter, Carolyn Lamb, died in 2006. Her brother, David Weinman, died in 2006.

Muriel is survived by her beloved husband of 57 years, Bertram; son, Mark of Englewood, Colo.; daughters and son-in-law, Merrill Lindeman of Warren and Susan and Lenny O'Donnell of Plainview, N.Y.; and five grandchildren. Interment at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin. Arrangements by Belkoff-Goldstein Funeral Chapel, Lakewood. MONESSON. Mr. Bernard Monesson died April 3, 2008, at Kimball Medical Center. He was 80.

Born and raised in Lakewood, Bernard owned and operated Mone Auto on Main Street for more than 50 years, selling bicycles and fishing gear to almost everyone in Lakewood.

Mr. Monesson is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Bernice; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Madli of Jackson, Joel and Debi of Brick, and Larry and Barbara of Bellvue, Colo.; daughter, Gail Monesson of Albuquerque, N.M.; and grandchildren, Shoham, Joshua and his wife Laurie, Amanda, Zahranna, and Alexandra. Interment at Mt. Sinai Cemetery, Lakewood. Arrangements by Belkoff-Goldstein Funeral Chapel, Lakewood.

 

ROSENFELD. Mrs. Minnie Grundman Rosenfeld died April 15, 2008, at the University Medical Center at Princeton. She was 94.

Born in Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. Rosenfeld lived in Cresskill before moving to Monroe 25 years ago. Before retiring in 1980, she was the office manager for her husband's dental practice for more than 40 years. Her husband, Dr. Sidney Rosenfeld, died in 1986.

Mrs. Rosenfeld is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Rabbi Harvey and Barbara Rosenfeld of Teaneck, and Dr. David and Joan Rosenfeld of Skillman; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Interment at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge. Arrangements by Mount Sinai Memorial Chapels, East Brunswick.

 

SHERMAN. Mr. Edgar M. Sherman of Asbury Park died April 15, 2008, at King Manor Care Center, Neptune. He was 90.

Mr. Sherman was born in Asbury Park and lived in Bradley Beach until 1965. He was a graduate of Bradley Beach Schools, Asbury Park High School, and New York University, where he earned his bachelor of science and master's degrees. He also attended Rutgers University, where he earned credits toward his Ph.D. in education. He lived in Interlaken from 1965 until 2004. He was a town councilman in Interlaken from 1988 until 2004 and was also its police commissioner. He taught in the Manasquan and Irvington School systems. He was the superintendent of Lakewood Schools, beginning in 1974, and later an assistant professor of economics at Monmouth College, where he was voted "Professor of the Year" by the student body. He was a past president of Kappa Delta Pi, an honorary society for education at New York University and a past president of Monmouth County Guidance Directors Association. He was an active member of Temple Beth El, Oakhurst and B'nai B'rith. Mr. Sherman was an accomplished violinist, playing first chair with the Monmouth County Symphony and New Jersey Symphony. He played with New York University Orchestra and Allstate New Jersey High School Orchestra. He was predeceased by his first wife, Marion.

Mr. Sherman is survived by his wife, Roselynd; son, Gerald; daughter-in-law, Judith; granddaughters, Leigh and her husband Avi Benayoun, and Beth and her fiancé Adam Lambert; and nephews, Paul Sherman and Dr. Gene Sherman. Arrangements by Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Ocean.


SILVERBERG
. Mr. Sidney Silverberg died April 15, 2008, at home. He was 87.

Born in New York City, Mr. Silverberg lived in Long Branch before moving to Monroe in 1996. Prior to retiring in 1996, he was a salesman for Huffman Koos, Rahway, where he worked for eight years. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was predeceased by his sister, Roslyn Middleman.

Mr. Silverberg is survived by his wife of 60 years, Edna Swerdlow Silverberg; sons and daughter-in-law, Paul and Nancy of Princeton and David and June of Vienna, Va.; and grandchildren, Adam, Robert and Shari. Interment at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown. Arrangements by Mount Sinai Memorial Chapels, East Brunswick.
