BAUMANDER.Mr. Jack Baumander died Aug. 5, 2009, at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge. He was 80. Born in Brooklyn, Mr. Baumander lived in South River before moving to Old Bridge 20 years ago. He was a cabinet maker and proprietor of Jack Baumander, Inc., Old Bridge, a cabinet manufacturing company. Mr. Baumander is survived by his wife of 24 years, Antonia Wallace Baumander; sons and daughter-in-law, Laurence and Tammi Baumander of Easley, S.C., and Joseph R. Casper of Bogota; daughters and sons-in-law, Serina and Frank Cata of South River, Mindy and Dr. Stephen Savoia of Pinetop, Ariz., Gail Baumander of West Chester, Pa., and Rhonda Casper of Old Bridge; brother, Erwin Baumander of Florida; grandchildren, Jenifer, Jason, Pamela, Michael, Perpetua, Killian, Bonaventure, Lazarus, Nichole, Janine, and Joseph T.; and his beloved dog, Max. ELLISH.Mrs. Bernice Schuler Ellish died Aug. 6, 2009, at the Medical Center at Princeton. She was 81. Born in Brooklyn, Mrs. Ellish lived in Queens before moving to Monroe 13 years ago. Mrs. Ellish is survived by her husband, Moe; sons and daughter-in-law, Andrew of Hackensack, and Stuart M. and Elisa of Cromwell, Conn.; daughter, Nancy J. Ellish of Owings Mills, Md.; sister, Evelyn Felix of Boynton Beach, Fla.; and grandchildren, Matthew, Rebecca, Melissa, Jessica, Jonathan, Lauren, and Zachary. EPSTEIN.Mrs. Geraldine Hannes Epstein died Aug. 4, 2009, at St. Barnabas Hospice at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. She was 86. Born in Brooklyn to Morris and Esther Hannes, while attending New York University Mrs. Epstein met her future husband, Henry. They married 64-and-a-half years ago and have lived in the shore area since 1949. Mrs. Epstein was an animal lover, avid sportswoman and political activist. She was active in the formation of Temple Beth Torah of Ocean, the first treasurer of the organization that eventually became the temple Sisterhood, president of the Wanamassa PTA, an active class mother, Brownie scout leader, treasurer of the JWV Asbury Park-Ocean Post #125 Auxiliary for the past 15 years, an active member of the Bamm Hallow Ladies Golf Group, and served several years as its Sunshine chairperson. Mrs. Epstein is survived by her husband, Henry; daughters, Susan Kent of Cohasset, Mass., and Renee Kemmeries of Ocean; nieces and nephews, Shirley and Barry Kaplan of Freehold, Linda Sinins of Springfield, Jill Lenese of Stroudsburg, Pa., and Dr. Leonard H. Epstein and Susan Epstein of Buffalo, N.Y.; grand niece and nephews, Rachel and Graig Parente of New Providence, Bruce Kaplan of Cambridge, Mass., Lee Sinins of Springfield, Robert and Candace Sinins of Mashpee, Mass., Joshua and Stephanie Sinins of Fairfax, Va., Alizia and Haley Epstein of Buffalo, N.Y.; and great-grandniece and nephews, Jacob, Tyler, and Annabelle Sinins of Mashpee. He was 77. Born in New York City, Mr. Firestone lived on the Lower East Side and attended Torah Vadaath in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. He graduated from the Rabbinical College of America, Brooklyn. His Hebrew name was Moshe Yonah. He attended City College, New York, graduating with a B.B.A. with a major in real estate and a minor in accounting. He was president of numerous real estate companies. He was a developer, partner, broker, builder, manager, and planner, and an expert in planning, designing, and funding of real estate and municipal recreation and economic development projects. He was chair of the Teaneck Swim Club, of the Responsible Teaneck Taxpayers for Recreation, and of the Teaneck Republican County committee. He was co-chair of the Teaneck Library fundraising committee, and president of the Teaneck Republican Club. He lived in Teaneck, Tenafly, Hackensack, and Manchester before moving to Westlake in 2002. He was a member of the Mens' Club at Westlake and a member of the Sons of Israel Synagogue in Lakewood. He was predeceased by his daughter, Sandra. Mr. Firestone is survived by his wife, Bess; daugter, Rhoda; and grandsons, Zachary and Cory. Arrangements by Belkoff-Goldstein Fneral Chapel, Lakewood. GOLDMAN. Mr. Mortimer Goldman died Aug. 4, 2009, at home. He was 93. Born in Brooklyn, Mr. Goldman graduated from Lincoln High School in 1934. He was known throughout Ocean County and New Jersey as a master photographer. He and his partner Leo Peskin operated Peskin-Goldman studios in Toms River, Brick, and Lakewood from 1955 to 1984. He is a past president of the N.J. Professional Photography Association and the recipient of the National Award for his contribution to professional photography in New Jersey and the U.S.A. He was a lover of jazz music and a well-known exhibitor and teacher of photography. His home movie, "Chick to Layer," has been archived at Brandeis University as documentary history of the poultry era in Ocean and Monmouth counties. He served in the Army from February, 1941 until November 1945. He was a proud and active member of the 27th and 83rd Divisions, serving first in the Hawaiian Islands, and then, as an officer, he landed in Normandy, France on D-Day and fought through the Hurten Forrest and the Battle of the Bulge, and met the Russians at the Elbe River. He received many awards for his service including the Combat Infantry Badge, two Bronze Stars, the European Badge with five battle stars. In 1994 during the 50th anniversary of D-day celebrations, he received the French medal from the mayor of Normandy in the presence of his children and grandchildren. After the war, Mort and his wife, Dorothy, bought a farm on Old Freehold Road, Toms River, where they raised chickens and three loving children. Mort and Dot were married 67 years and had a great life together until she passed away last year. Dot worked with Mort on the farm and in the Toms River studio. They traveled and took courses all over the world and volunteered in many local organizations, including 10 years at the Ocean County Library. They were founding members of the Congregation B'nai Israel in Toms River, with Mort serving as president 1967-1969. He was also past president of Toms River B'nai B'rith, the Jewish National Fund, Israel Bonds, and the Jewish Federation of Ocean County. Mr. Goldman is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Georgia of Bloomburg, Pa.; daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Don Van Nostrand of Oakhurst, and Irene and Charles Hoyt of West Windsor; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Interment at Congregation B'nai Israel Memorial Park. Arrangements by The Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, Toms River. Memorial donations may be made to Congregation B'nai Israel Educational Endowment Fund. KLEINMAN. Mr. Irwin Kleinman died Aug. 10, 2009, at home. He was 72. Born in the Bronx, Mr. Kleinman lived in Brooklyn before moving to Morganville 39 years ago. He was an operations manager for several computer companies, retiring 15 years ago. He was a member of Free Sons of Israel, Battleground-Adelphia Lodge Knights of Pythias and a member of Congregation Sons of Israel, Manalapan. He was a life member of the Morganville First Aid Squad. Mr. Kleinman is survived by his loving wife, Myrna (née Kleinberg); daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Harold McKenna; brother and sister-in-law, David and Nancy of Yardley, Pa.; granddaughters, Leigh Whitman, Rachel and Rebecca McKenna; and seven nephews and their families. Arrangements by Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Manalapan. KNAPP. Mrs. Leah Johanna Knapp died Aug. 4, 2009. She was 88. Leah was a resident of Edison since 1960. She was a member of Congregation Beth El, where she was active with the senior group, and a member of the Rutgers Bowling League. She loved to dance and play Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. She was a loving person, very close to family and had many, many friends of all ages and cultures. Leah was forever young on the dance floor and life. Her husband, Norman, died in 1975. Mrs. Knapp is survived by her daughter, Arlene Munkacsi; son, Lewis; grandchildren, Sean Munkacsi and his wife, Tiffany, Andrew Munkacsi and his wife, Ann, Elena Cohn and her husband Michael, and Alexander Knapp; and great-grandchildren, Margaret, Claire and Sam Munkacsi, and Allison and Zachary Cohn. Interment at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge. Arrangements by Goldstein Funeral Chapel, Edison. LIGORSKI. Mrs. Sylvia Segel died peacefully July 31, 2009, at home. She was 95. Born in Pruzana, Poland, Sylvia immigrated to America in 1949. She was a Holocaust survivor and a partisan during the war. She was a former member of Congregation Dov 'v' Shmuel; she worked for Air Cruisers in Wall for many years, retiring 30 years ago. She was an outstanding mother and took that responsibility seriously and with love. Her beloved husband, Harry, died in 1969. Mrs. Segel is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Andrea and Emanuel Koonin of Miami and Bradley Beach, and Brenda of New York City; granddaughter, Nora Booth and her husband, David; and great grandson, Devin Isaac Booth. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, or to the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. Interment at Mt. Sinai Cemetery, Lakewood.
