Thank you from
Beth-El

Thank you so much for the recent picture layout in The Jewish State regarding Congregation Beth-El. We are a strong, positive, and viable congregation and the article and pictures helped showcase our assets. Our exterior facelift looked beautiful and the accompanying article highlighted our warm and positive atmosphere. When Jews help each other to shine, everyone wins. Thank you again.

Pedestrian safety

In "Report sheds light on county’s need for pedestrian and bicyclist safety," Jason Cohen notes that Middlesex County is the most dangerous in the state for bicyclists and pedestrians. I don’t know about bicyclists, but as a pedestrian I certainly agree.

One serious problem is that drivers completely ignore crosswalks where pedestrians are supposed to have the right of way. For example, I and others have had several close misses on Friday nights and Saturday mornings from cars speeding across the pedestrian crosswalk on Dunhams Corner Road at Tall Oaks Drive and Colonial Drive near the Young Israel of East Brunswick. While the pedestrian crosswalk is clearly marked with yellow signs on the side of the road, enhanced markings might help, for example, a sign saying pedestrian crosswalk, in the middle of the road and very thick white lines going across the street.

Presumably this would be relatively inexpensive to do at all crosswalks in the county. Furthermore, the local police need to enforce the law with the issuance of tickets.
