DORFMAN. Mr. Joseph Dorfman died July 20, 2008, at Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center, New Brunswick. He was 89.
Residing in Newark and Middle Village, N.Y., Mr. Dorman then lived in Edison for many years before moving to Atlanta, Ga. He served in the Army during World War II as a warrant officer. He spent much of his time in France searching for family members, that survived the Holocaust. Later, he was instrumental in bringing them to the United States. He had a varied career, having been in the industrial uniform business in N.J., then later the dry cleaning and laundry business in Atlanta, with his wife. Upon returning to Edison 17 years ago, he became involved with the security business, holding the distinction of being the oldest licensed security officer in N.J. He was active in many civic and religious organizations in N.J. and Atlanta, holding many offices and receiving many prestigious honors and awards.
Mr. Dorfman is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years. Shyrl; son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Debbie of Highland Park; grandchildren, Samantha and Seth Wolchok, Jaime Dorfman, and Noah Dorfman; sisters, Phyllis Blowstein of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Grace Rubin of Lakewood; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. DUPLER. Mrs. Phyllis Toby Dupler of Freedhold died Aug. 10, 2008, at St. Peter's Hospital, New Brunswick. She was 70.
Born in Brooklyn, Phyllis lived in East Brunswick for 40 years before moving to Freehold three years ago from Hamilton. She was a classic homemaker, always taking care of the most important thing in her life, her family. Her beloved husband of 44 years, Murray, died in 2004.
Mrs. Dupler is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Tracy of Elmwood Park; daughters and sons-in-law, Abbe and Howard Teicher of Freehold, and Bonnie and Eric Landron of Edison; and grandchildren, Marissa, Jamie, and Benjamin. FAMELY. Mrs. Helen (née Scher) Famely died Aug. 10, 2008, in Old Bridge. She was 90.
Born in Englewood, Mrs. Famely lived in Linden for more than 50 years. She taught business courses in various Union County and Essex County schools. She was a member of Anshe Chesed, Linden, and had been a member of their Sisterhood, Deborah, and Hadassah.
Mrs. Famely is survived by her sons, Richard of East Brunswick and Norman of Connecticut; daughter, Barbara Katzenstein of Minnesota; sister, Florence Hagman; and five grandchildren. Interment at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge. Arrangements by The Goldstein Funeral Chapel, Edison. FERTIG. Mrs. Ethel M. Fertig died Aug. 14, 2008, at the Central New Jersey Jewish Home for the Aged in Somerset. She was 91.
Born in New Brunswick on Dec. 5, 1916, daughter of the late Sarah and David Mayrowetz, Ethel and her husband, Herbert, resided in Highland Park from 1948 until they moved in 1979 to Century Village in Deerfield Beach, Fla. She resided there until moving to the Chelsea in East Brunswick in November, 2000. She last resided at the Central New Jersey Jewish Home for the Aged in Somerset. She was a member of the Highland Park Conservative Temple, an officer of the temple's Sisterhood; a member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Central N.J. Jewish Home for the Aged; a life member of Hadassah; and a member of AMC Cancer Research Center. She was a member of the board of directors and treasurer of Richmon A. Century Village, Deerfield Beach, Fla. Ethel was a devoted and beloved daughter, wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, who was dedicated and adored by her immediate and extended family members and many friends. Her husband, Herbert, died in 1984. She was also predeceased by her brother, Herman Marrow, and sister, Bess Vajda.
Mrs. Fertig is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Joseph and Naomi of Monroe; daughter and son-in-law, Arlene and Alan Granetz of Bridgewater; brother, Charles Mayrowetz of Boca Raton, Fla.; grandchildren, Meredith Granetz Salamon and her husband, Jason, Michael Granetz and his wife, Joy, Emily Granetz, Joyce Fertig Kaufman and her husband, Michael, and David Fertig and his wife, Melissa; and great-grandchildren, Abbie and Zachary Salamon, Nathan and Juliet Granetz, Hallie and Marissa Kaufman, and Matthew and Joshua Fertig. GIETTER. Mr. Irving L. Gietter died Aug. 18, 2008. He was 84.
Born in Newark, Mr. Gietter lived in Colonia for 30 years before moving to Berkeley in 1987. He was an engineer for the Army at Fort Monmouth for 20 years until his retirement in 1989. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II; a member of the Holiday City Amateur Radio Club, and the Jewish Friends Club of Holiday City.
Mr Gietter is survived by his wife of 55 years, Millicent Duchin Gietter; children, Marc and Nancy Gietter of Jackson, Susan and Peter Rigby of Clifton, Va., and Joan and Scott DeMonte of Millstone; and grandchildren, Amber, Brianna, Lauren, Emily, Meredith, Sara and Jared. GLENN. Mr. Alan Glenn died Aug. 23, 2008, at home. He was 78.
Born in the Bronx, Mr. Glenn lived in Elizabeth and Short Hills before moving to Monroe. He was the owner of Ritz Drugs of Elizabeth until 1970. From 1972 to 1996 he was the executive vice president/president of the Drug Guild Distributors in Secaucus, the company founded by his father, Herman. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving as a sergeant in the Air Force from 1950 to 1953. He was predeceased by his sister, Renee Banks.
Mr. Glenn is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Diana; mother, Hannah; daughters and sons-in-law, Jackie and Steven Lewis, Leslie and Paul Chesloff, and Mindy and Aaron Tucker; and grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jonathan, Samantha, Alison and Adam. GREENBERG. Mr. Steven L. Greenberg died July 29, 2008, at home. He was 56.
Born in Toms River, Steven was lifelong resident of Lakewood, and a gemologist with the Mila NJ Diamonds, King of Prussia, Pa. His beloved wife, Caren, died in 2001. Steven was also predeceased by his cherished mother, Claire, in 2000.

Hamelsky. Mrs. Dorothy Marcus Hamelsky of Monroe died Aug. 14, 2008, at Medical Center at Princeton. She was 92.
Born in New Brunswick, Mrs. Hamelsky lived in Highland Park and East Brunswick before moving to Monroe in 1985. She graduated from New Brunswick School System and Douglass College and served as treasurer of the "Class of 1936" at Douglass from graduation until her passing. In 1980 she received the Douglass College Alumnae Association "Recognition Award" for outstanding service to the school. She was very active throughout her life in her community. She was a member of both Highland Park Conservative Temple and Anshe Emeth Memorial Temple. She took a leadership role in the Israel Bond Organization, helping to raise funds for Israel. She was honored with the organization's "Women of Valor" Award presented to her personally by then-Israeli Prime Minister, Golda Meir. She was also active in Deborah, Hadassah, Brandeis Women and National Council of Jewish Women, and even found time to knit caps for children with cancer. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Abraham, and daughter, Marilyn Edelstein.
Mrs. Hamelsky is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Marc and Delice of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; sisters, Evelyn M. Goldstein, Ruth M. Patt, and Adelaide M. Zagoren, all of Monroe, and Helene M. Strauss of Boca Raton, Fla.; six grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. Interment at Elmwood Cemetery, New Brunswick. Arrangements by Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel, New Brunswick. HOLTZ. Mrs. Ruth Holtz died Aug. 15, 2008, at the hospice center at Florida Medical Center, Fort Lauderdale, Fla. She was 87.
Born and raised in Long Branch, Mrs. Holtz lived in Ocean for many years while she and her husband raised their family. She moved to Coconut Creek, Fla. 30 years ago. She was a former member of Congregation Brothers of Israel, West Long Branch, and graduated valedictorian of Long Branch High School, Long Branch. Her husband, Walter, died in 1996.
Mrs. Holtz is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Howard Holtz and Laura Prato of Maplewood; daughters and son-in-law, Sheila and John Mascolo of West Hartford, Conn., and Olga Bush of Long Valley; brother, Alvin Wayne of Naples, Fla.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. NEEDELL. Mrs. Shirley Needell died peacefully Aug. 2, 2008, in Princeton. She was 81.
Born in Port Chester, N.Y., Shirley lived in College Point, N.Y. for 37 years and Pembroke Pines, Fla. for 25 years before recently moving to Princeton. She and her husband, Louis, owned and operated the Village Floor Covering in College Point for more than 37 years, retiring in 1983. She enjoyed golf and in 1983 Shirley was the Club Champion at Pembroke Lakes Golf Club in Florida. She enjoyed reading, working on computers and playing mah jongg. She will be sadly missed by all.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 61 years, Louis; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Cheryl; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Joseph Brandi; sister, Rose Chick; and grandchildren, Nicole, Daniel, Joseph, Melissa, Emily and Stephanie. RABSTEIN. Mrs. Shirley Rabstein died Aug. 6, 2008, at the Green Acres Manor, Toms River. She was 91.
Born in Trenton, Mrs. Rabstein lived in Interlaken for 33 years before moving to Point Pleasant 44 years ago. She was a former member of Temple Beth El, Oakhurst, and of Temple Beth Or, Brick. Her husband, Solomon, died in 1990.
Mrs. Rabstein is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Arthur and Merle of Toms River; daughter and son-in-law, Lois and Alan Klieger of Westfield; grandchildren, Bruce Rabstein and his wife Elizabeth, Stacy Buckley and her husband Robert, Gail Marshall and her husband Craig, and Leslie Klieger and her husband Dov Ben-Shimon; and great-grandchildren, Debra and Jessica Rabstein, Alyssa and Jacob Marshall, and Eitan and Yael Klieger. ROSEN. Mrs. Joyce Rosen died Aug. 4, 2008, at home. She was 86.
Mrs. Rosen was a manager in the computer programming department for The Prudential Life Insurance Company at her retirement in 1977, and worked as a programmer during the early development of computer systems at Prudential. She was a member of ORT, and an avid bowler, bridge, and mah jongg player. She was born in Kingston, N.Y., and lived in Elizabeth before moving to Whiting in 1977.
Mrs. Rosen is survived by her son, Stephen, of Toronto; daughter, Leslie Merz, of Bethlehem, Pa.; brother, Walter Weinstein, of Monroe; sisters, Bernice Cooper of Lakehurst and Laura Bell of Lake Forest, Calif.; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Saltiel. Mrs. Frieda "Fritz" Saltiel died Aug. 22, 2008, at home in Clearbrook. She was 86.
Born in Indianapolis, Ind., Mrs. Saltiel lived in New Brunswick and Highland Park before moving to North Brunswick, where she lived for 20 years; 28 years ago she moved to Monroe. She was a very creative and artistic lady, who always added her elegant personal touch to everything. She was an avid gardener, loved to read, and an excellent cook and baker. She lived for her family and was loved by everyone who met her. She was past president of Sisterhood of Congregation Etz Ahaim in Highland Park. She wrote many book reviews for various sisterhoods and organizations in Middlesex County, including Hadassah, which she was a member of. Her husband, Morris, died in 1988. She was also predeceased by her brother, Gilbert Cohen.
Mrs. Saltiel is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ira and Rose of Plainsboro; daughter and son-in-law, Sheril and Arnie Hirsch of Miramar, Fla.; granddaughters, Meredith Saltiel, Shanna Jelen, and Stacy and Allison Hirsch; great-granddaughter, Rileigh Jelen; sisters, Becky Profeta of Indianapolis and Lee Eisenberg of Camarillo, Calif.; and brothers, Leon Cohen of Sacramento, Calif. and Morris Cohen of St. Petersburg, Fla. SANDLER. Mrs. Florence Field Sandler died peacefully at home Aug. 16, 2008. She was 85.
Having grown up in South Orange, Florence attended Columbia High School in Maplewood and then graduated from Wellesley College in 1944, where she majored in English literature. Shortly after graduation, she married Lewis Sandler, a recently commissioned Army Air Corps officer whom she had meet as a Harvard undergraduate. He was a founding partner of the Sandler & Worth retail carpet chain. While raising a family, Florence devoted herself to service in the community, most notably to Hadassah and the PTA of Marshall elementary school in South Orange. In the 1960s, she and collaborator Amanda Safirstein, her aunt, authored several musical comedies set to the music of popular show tunes that were staged for PTA benefits. Other lifelong pursuits included tennis and the opera.
Mrs. Sandler received a Ph.D. in the field of Medieval English literature in 1973 from Drew University, and subsequently began a career in college teaching. For many years, she was an adjunct professor in English at Seton Hall University in South Orange and Kean University in Union, where she taught expository and business writing. Despite her frailty in recent years, she continued to pursue her passion for teaching writing skills to young students through her work for the Achieve Voluntary Tutor Program of Columbia High School. Her husband of 59 years, Lewis, died in 2003. Arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Interment at Sharey Tefilo-Israel Cemetery.
STRAUSS. Mrs. Mildred Strauss died Aug. 9, 2008, at Stratford Manor in West Orange. She was 83.
Born in the Bronx, Mrs. Strauss lived there and in Florida before moving to Stratford Manor in West Orange in 2001. She was a homemaker. She was predeceased by her husband, Jules.
Mrs. Strauss is survived by her daughters, Randi Greenberg of Sparta, and Lori Citrin of Springfield; brother, Bernard Marcus of Los Altos Hills, Calif.; sister, Elaine Cooper of Los Altos, Calif.; and four grandchildren. Interment at Westchester Hills Cemetery, Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y. Arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union.
TUCKER. Mrs. Anna Tucker (née Rosenberg) of Somerset died Aug. 10, 2008, at the Central New Jersey Jewish Home for the Aged. She was 95.
Born in Brooklyn, Mrs. Tucker lived in Newark, Irvington and Union before moving to Somerset in 2002. She was a production worker for the Becton Dickinson Corporation in Newark for 25 years before retiring many years ago. She was past president of the Irvington Jewish Seniors Association for more than 20 years. Her husband, Schalle Tucker, died in 1974. She was also predeceased by her daughter, Ilene Kaner. Mrs. Tucker is survived by her daughters, Phyllis Eckel of Toms River and Dorene Levy of Scotch Plains; grandchildren, Libby, Rachel, Alan, Marci, Irene, Michael and Deborah; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
