Funeral services were Friday, Aug. 17, at 10:30 a.m. in Mount Sinai Memorial Chapels Inc., Cranbury Road at Evergreen Boulevard, East Brunswick, N.J. Born in Manhattan, Mr. Fein resided in Jericho and East Meadow, Long Island, before moving to Monroe Township 22 years ago. He earned a bachelors degree at the City College of New York. Prior to retiring 10 years ago, Mr. Fein was a self-employed CPA. He was a captain during World War II in the Army Air Corps. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Miriam Zabrowsky Fein; three daughters, Sheila Hirschfield and her husband, Ron, of Holland, Pa., Joyce Fein of Marlboro and Carol Fein Ross and her husband, Sander, of Pleasantville, N.Y.; seven grandchildren, Michelle Cooper and her husband, Steven, Brian and his wife, Karina Hirschfield, David and his wife, Rachel, and Amy Hudesman, Hillary and her husband, Dan Posternak, Lindsey and Melissa Ross, and three great-grandchildren, Dylan and Samantha Cooper and Kayla Hirschfield. Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket FISH. Robert B. Fish, 50, of Springfield, passed away peacefully on Monday, Aug. 20, 2007, at home, lovingly surrounded by family. Throughout his illness, he kept his brilliance, keen sense of humor and compassion for everyone around him. The funeral was held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2007, at Temple Beth Ahm, 60 Temple Drive, Springfield. Interment at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin. Arrangements by the Menorah Chapels at Millburn, 2950 Vaux Hall Road, Union. Born and raised in Springfield, and moving to Short Hills, Mr. Fish returned to the community to raise his family. He obtained his B.S. from the School of Management at Syracuse University, where he met his wife of 27 years, Yeda. He was president and member of the Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity and later stayed involved with the S.U. Alumni Club, where he became the Alumni of the Year in 2005. After graduation, he received his M.B.A. at Rutgers University. Roberts brilliant sales abilities secured him outstanding employment positions, beginning with vice president and director of Sales at ADP. He later obtained his series seven license, and was employed by Ryan Beck, and then serving as senior vice president at Smith Barney in Short Hills. He volunteered on the Board of Directors for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Temple Beth Ahm of Springfield Mens Club, and Our Tradition Grows Temple Beth Ahm Renovation Committee. He then served on the Springfield Board of Education for 12 years, including various committees and one term of presidency. He established the Jordan Lee Fish Foundation in memory of his son, Jordan Lee, 14, who predeceased him in 2003. Robert was the beloved husband of Yeda; devoted father of Marnie and Ross of Springfield; beloved son of Francine Schwartz and Marvin and Dorothy Fish; cherished brother of Randi and Fred Ostry of Springfield, and Pamela and Joel Zingeser of Maryland; adored brother-in-law of Ellen and Stephen Fischbein, and Sherri and Marvin Zaitz of Springfield; loving uncle to nieces and nephews, Rena and Ricky Ostry, Madelyn and Jule Zingeser, Carrie, Evan and Jesse Fischbein, Josh, Matt and David Zaitz. Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket FLASHBERG. Milton S. Flashberg, 85, of Burlington, died Friday, Aug. 17, 2007, in the Masonic Home in Burlington. Graveside services are on Tuesday, Aug. 21, at 1:30 p.m. in Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge. Arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Born in New York City, Mr. Flashberg lived in Elizabeth and then West Palm Beach, Fla., before moving to Burlington. Prior to his retirement, he had been a plumbers assistant and driver for Monarch Plumbing in Linden for several years. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Flashberg was a member of the Corner Stone Tyrian Lodge 229 F&AM and the Mens Club of the Jewish Educational Center in the Elmora section of Elizabeth. He is survived by his beloved wife, Selma (nee Feltman); two daughters, Laura Flashberg and her husband, Randy Coble, of High Bridge and Bonnie Lasus of Temecula, Calif.; grandsons, Shawn and Jared Lasus, and great-granddaughter, Madison Lasus. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Masonic Home in Burlington.

 

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket FRIEDMAN. Samuel Friedman of Linden died Aug. 26, 2007, after a battle with cancer. The funeral service was held on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2007, at 1 p.m. in Temple Anche Chesed, St. George Avenue at Orchard Terrace, Linden. Arrangements by the Bernheim-ApterKreitzman Suburban Chapel, Livingston.
Samuel was born on May 18, 1920, in Roselle to Harry Friedman and Rebecca Pearl Silber Friedman. He grew up and lived in Linden most of his working life. He served in the European and African Theaters for the U.S. Army during World War II, and was honored with the Good Conduct Medal and Combat Infantryman Award. Samuel was a well-liked, friendly salesman for Associated Auto Parts in Linden for 54 years. He was active in the Masonic Order, and was a past master (1964) of Lafayette Lodge No. 57 F&AM of Westfield, and a past grand pursuivant of the N.J. Grand Lodge F&AM, and was very proud of receiving his 50-year Masonic pin in 2003. He was an active member of Temple Mekor Chayim in Linden, as well as Temple Anche Chesed in Linden, and the Union County Torah Center, and was a lifetime member of Bnai Brith. Samuel was a very strong supporter of the State of Israel and proud of its contributions to the world. He had a positive attitude and a passion for life, overcoming paralysis and learning to walk again at the age of 75. Even though he left school after the 8th grade, he was a very intelligent, well-spoken and well-read man, inspiring those who knew him. Samuel was preceded in death by his first wife, Zelda Friedman, and sons, Edward and Barry, and is survived by his wife, Sophie; daughter, Alyce Lappin Jungk (Steve); son, Howard Friedman (Lori); stepdaughter, Natalie Bailin; stepsons, Steven Levine (Josie) and Michael Levine; grandchildren, Nathan Lappin (Stacy), Michael Lappin (John West), Larry Bailin, Jeffrey Bailin, Jacob Levine, David Levine, Victoria Levine and Karalyn Levine; great-grandchildren, Raymond Lappin and Olivia Lappin; sister, Ida Mark, as well as many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to B'nai B'rith or the American Cancer Society.

 

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket LIPSCHULTZ. Mrs. Doris Lipschultz, 78, of Springfield died on Friday, Aug. 24, 2007, in Atlantic Hospice at Care One, Morristown. Funeral services were conducted from the Menorah Chapel at Millburn, 2950 Vaux Hall Rd., Union, on Sunday, Aug. 26, 2007, at 2:15 p.m. Interment in B'nai Abraham Memorial Park, Union.
Born in Philadelphia, Pa., Mrs. Lipschultz lived in Springfield for over 50 years. She was an operator for Bell Telephone, Philadelphia, Pa., for 10 years many years ago. Mrs. Lipschultz was a member of the Sisterhood of Temple Beth Ahm, Springfield, and in 1974 she received the Woman of The Year Award from the Sisterhood. She is survived by her husband, David; her children and their spouses, Steven and Coppy Lipschultz, and Susan and Paul Pinkerton; a sister, Marie Bradley, and two grandchildren, Ashley and Joshua. She was predeceased by her brother, Sonny Lynch.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket MILLER. Irving I. Miller, 91, of West Orange died on Aug. 22, 2007, at home. Services were held on Thursday, Aug. 23, at 12 noon in Congregation A.A.B.J. & D., 700 Pleasant Valley Way, West Orange, with interment in Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin.
Born in Newark on Sept. 6, 1915, to Polish immigrant parents Morris and Minnie Miller, Mr. Miller lived in Newark for many years before moving to West Orange. He served in the U.S. Army under General MacArthur during World War II and received nine service citations. He was president of Interstate Showcase and Store Fixtures Company Inc. of Newark for the better part of 70 years and was active in the business until just a few months ago. As a store planner and architect, his work can be seen in nearly every part of the metropolitan area. Mr. Miller's deep commitment and support of all Jewish causes were instrumental in building the Jewish Essex County community as we know it today. He was a member of the Daughters of Israel and the Daughters of Miriam and a lifelong member of Congregation A.A.B.J.& D. as well as a past president of the congregation. He was also a member of Congregation Ohr Torah. Mr. Miller was the longest serving board member of the Joseph Kushner Hebrew Youth Academy in Livingston and served on many, many committees. He was also a member of the Jewish War Veterans, the Jewish Historical Society and the Jewish Education Association. Surviving are his wife, Eva S. Miller; sons, Elliot, Leon and Stuart; a daughter, Karen, and 12 grandchildren.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket POLAN. Mrs. Margery L. Polan of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., formerly of West Orange and Short Hills, N.J., died on Aug. 14, 2007, after a brief illness. She leaves behind her husband, Stanley Polan, and five children-- Michael Miller of Rockaway, N.J., Kelly Polan of South Orange, N.J., Diane Polan of New Haven, Conn., Amy Polan Clarke of West Orange, N.J., and Karen Rosica of Denver, Colo. Another daughter, Susan Schneider, predeceased her. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 12 greatgrandchildren.
Margery was born in Newark, N.J., on Nov. 1, 1916. She was the daughter of Milton and Minnie Lowy and the sister of Helen Kaltenbacher. She was a graduate of East Side High School in Newark and New Jersey College of Women (now Rutgers University). Margery served as a Red Cross volunteer during World War II. She was vice president of Ray Miller, Inc., in West Caldwell, N.J., for many years. She also did volunteer work at the Jupiter Hospital. Admired for her classic taste and envied for her ability to eat like a sailor could drink without gaining a pound, she loved words and did the Sunday N.Y. Times crossword puzzles in ink. Graveside services were held at Temple B'nai Jeshurun Cemetery in Hillside today, Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007, at 1:30 p.m. Arrangements by the Bernheim Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Rd., Livingston, N.J. Memorial contributions can be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or to Hospice of Palm Beach County.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket TAUB. Mrs. Phyllis B. Taub (nee Bohrer), 84, died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2007, at the Berkeley Heights Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services were held Sunday, Aug. 26, 2007, at 1 p.m. at the Menorah Chapels at Millburn, 2950 Vaux Hall Rd., Union. Interment at B'nai Abraham Memorial Park, Union.
Mrs. Taub was born in Newark and lived in Verona, where she was a longtime resident of the Claridge House, before moving to Watchung three years ago. She graduated from NYU in 1944 with a degree in education and was a business education teacher for several years in Essex County. Mrs. Taub was the devoted wife of the late Robert Taub; dear mother of Linda Simon-Breslow and Warren Taub; cherished mother-in-law of Bill Breslow and Dana Taub; loving sister of Robert Bohrer, and adored grandmother of Jason, Carrie, Erica, Jessica, Chase and Austin. She is also survived by two loving greatgrandsons, Jonathan and Jack.

 

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket WELLER. Mrs. Goldina Weller (nee Rosen), 82, of Springfield died on Wednesday in Overlook Hospital, Summit. The funeral was held at Temple Shaarey Shalom, 78 S. Springfield Ave., Springfield, on Friday, Aug. 24, at 11 a.m. The interment was on Monday, Aug. 27, in Cheektowaga, N.Y. Arrangements by the Menorah Chapels at Millburn, 2950 Vaux Hall Road, Union.
Born in Buffalo, N.Y., Mrs. Weller lived there before moving to Springfield 18 years ago. She was a librarian at the State University of New York (S.U.N.Y), Buffalo, N.Y., for 17 years. She then served as secretary at Temple Beth Ahm, then Temple Shaarey Shalom, both in Springfield, before retiring in 2002. Mrs. Weller was a member of the Sisterhood of Temple Shaarey Shalom, as well as a choir member. Predeceased by her husband, Bennie, she is survived by her daughter, Janet Maslow, son-inlaw, Larry Maslow, and grandchildren, Nathaniel, Benjamin and Stuart. Donations in her memory may be made to the Springfield First Aid Squad.
