BELIKOFF. Robert W. Belikoff, age 66, of Union, died Monday at UMDNJ in Newark. Funeral services will be
conducted Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in Menorah Chapels at Millburn, 2950 Vauxhall Rd., Union. Interment will be in Mount
Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin. Born in Newark, Mr. Belikoff resided in Union for most of his life. He was a project manager
for Related Retail Corp. in New York City. Prior to that, he was a selfemployed contractor as a master plumber. Mr.
Belikoff was a graduate of Rutgers University and belonged to the Cadillac and LaSalle Automobile Club. He is survived
by his wife, Joan (Altman) Belikoff; his children, Michael of Mendham, Marla Lengle of Howell, Jennifer Church of
Neshanic Station, and two stepchildren, Wendy Gold of Bridgewater and Marlo Bianco of Millburn; one sister, Sue
Karp of Somerset, and eight grandchildren, Logan, Matthew, Morgan, Stephen, Alexander, Brett, Jordan and Daniel.

BERGER. Bernard Julius Berger, 76, of Clark died Wednesday at home. Funeral services will be held Sunday at
11:30 a.m. in the Menorah Chapels at Millburn, 2950 Vaux Hall Road, Union. Interment will be in Mount Lebanon Cemetery,
Iselin. Mr. Berger was born in Newark and lived in Irvington before moving to Clark in 1963. He was a musician. His
musical career as a woodwind and piano artist spanned many decades. He performed on Broadway in symphony orchestras
and jazz combo. Mr. Berger received a B.A. degree from Columbia Teachers College in New York City. He is survived by
his wife, Naomi (Schecter) Berger; two sons, Mitchell Berger of East Hanover and Glen Berger of Valencia, Calif.;
three grandchildren, Jordan, Jared and Victoria, and two sisters, Rita Markowitz of Las Vegas, Nev., and Marilyn

EISENSTEIN. Pauline Eisenstein, 87, of Hazlet died Wednesday, July 18, 2007, at her home. Graveside
services will be at 1:30 p.m today at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge. The Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Ocean
Township, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Eisenstein was born in Russia and lived in New York and Chicago before
moving to Hazlet 50 years ago. She was an administrator for the Associated Medical Schools of New York in Manhattan for
25 years before retiring in 1994. She was predeceased by her husband, Philip, in 1965, and is survived by her son,
Paul Eisenstein of Pleasant Ridge, Mich., one grandchild and three greatgrandchildren. Donations can be made to the
Alzheimers Association or you local hospice.
FLAX. Harold Flax, 86, of Freehold, died Friday, July 20, at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold
Township. Born in New York City, he lived in Jersey City and Elizabeth before moving to Freehold 20 years ago. Mr. Flax
was in the textile industry for many years and later served as the receiving manager of St. Barnabas Medical Center,
Livingston, before retiring 17 years ago. He was a decorated combat veteran, serving in the Army's 3rd Infantry
Division during World War II. He was active in the Surrey Downs Men's Club in Freehold. He was predeceased by his
loving wives, Sylvia Flax, who died in 1965, and Charlotte Flax, who died in 1992. Surviving are a son and
daughter-in-law, Philip and Sonia Flax of Long Island, N.Y.; his two daughters and sons-in-law, Wendy and Jack
Benrubi of Old Bridge, and Andrea and Robert Galperin of East Brunswick; his loving grandchildren, Matthew, Sara,
Bennett and Sonali; and two great-grandchildren, Tallon and Christie. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m.
Sunday at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Gill Lane, Iselin. Should friends desire, donations may be made to support children

GROSSMAN. Irwin Grossman, 70 years, of Colonia died Thursday at home. Funeral services will be held at
Congregation Neve Shalom, 250 Grove Ave., Metuchen, on Sunday at 11 a.m. Arrangements have been completed by
BernheimApter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Born in Newark, Mr. Grossman moved to Colonia in 1965.
He graduated from Weequahic High School and received his M.A. from the Manhattan School of Music. He taught
instrumental music at the New Providence school system, and also taught privately. He retired in 1995. Mr. Grossman
was a member of Congregation Neve Shalom, Metuchen, the Mens Club of the Congregation, the NJEA, the NEA, the
Netherwood Tennis Club, Plainfield, and the Evergreen Art Group in Colonia. He had many exhibits for his noted
watercolor paintings. He was the beloved husband of Beatrice (nee Sladowsky); devoted father of Andrea and her
husband, Gary Abrams, and Stephanie Grossman; dear brother of Beverly Robbins, and most precious grandfather of

HERSH. Robert I. Hersh, 54, of Maplewood died on July 27, 2007, at his home. Funeral services are scheduled
for Sunday, July 29, 2007, at 2:15 p.m. in the Menorah Chapels at Millburn, 2950 Vauxhall Rd., Union. Born in Newark,
he resided in North Brunswick and West Orange before moving to Maplewood 10 years ago. Mr. Hersh was an engineer with
Verizon in New York City for the past 25 years. Surviving are his son, Matthew Hersh; a brother, Mitchell Hersh, and
a sister, Linda Hersh.
HIRSCH. Mr. Isidore Hirsch died July 23, 2007 at the New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home, Edison. He was 81.
Born in the Bronx, Mr. Hirsch lived in Demarest and River Edge before moving to Monroe 12 years ago. Before retiring
in 1995, he was a plumber with his brother, Jack C., of Hicksville, N.Y., for many years. He was a Navy veteran of
World War II, serving as a Fireman 1st Class. He was a congregant of the Jewish Congregation of Clearbrook, Monroe.
His first wife, Shirley Adelson Hirsch, died in 1984. Mr. Hirsch is survived by his wife of 19 years, Gertrude Mane
Hirsch; sons, Robert and Martin; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Interment at Old Montefiore Cemetery,
St. Albans, N.Y. Arrangements by Mount Sinai Memorial Chapels, East Brunswick.
KASEN. Gerald D. Gerry Kasen of Maplewood died Thursday, July 26, 2007. Graveside services will be held
at the Bernheim Family Circle at King Solomon Cemetery, Dwasline Road and Allwood Road, Clifton, on Friday, July 27,
2007, at 11 a.m. Arrangements are by the Bernheim-ApterKreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Born in Newark,
Mr. Kasen graduated from Weequahic High School and received his bachelor of science in textile chemistry and coloring
from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1951. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Mr. Kasen served on the USS Henry W. Tucker
in the South Pacific during World War II. Prior to founding G.D. Kasen and Associates, Mr. Kasen worked as a textile
designer, commuting between the Carolinas and Manhattan. He later worked for AA Stationers, Inc. and, after retiring,
at Cambridge Stationers, Inc. A resident of Maplewood for over 40 years, Mr. Kasen was a past president of the Unity
Club and formerly sang with the Maplewood Glee Club. He had also been a volunteer at Beth Israel Hospital, counseling
cardiac care patients before and after they underwent bypass surgery. He was a longtime active member of
Congregation Beth El, serving as a past president of its Mens Club. Predeceased by his beloved wife, Beverly Weiss
Kasen, he leaves his children, Nancy Kasen and Nathan Shpritz of Brookline, Mass., and Douglas and Dana Kasen
Gilbert of Maplewood, as well as three delicious grandchildren, Bennett Shpritz, Kasen, Ezekiel Shpritz Kasen and
Kasen Dova Gilbert. He was the son of the late Nathan and Henrietta (Herman) Kasen and the brother of the late
Theresa Kasen Cooperman Lewis and Bernice (Bunny) Kasen Berly. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the

KAY. Saul Kay, 83, of Newark died on Saturday, July 21, 2007, in St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston.
Entombment and services will be held at Temple of Israel Mausoleum Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge, on Monday,
July 23, 2007, at 11 a.m. Arrangements are by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, 2950 Vauxhall Road, Union. Born in Newark,
Mr. Kay lived in West Orange for 52 years before moving back to Newark. He served in the U.S. Army during World War
II. Mr. Kay received his bachelors and masters degree from Montclair State College. He worked for the Clifton Board of
Education as a music teacher for 37 years before retiring in 1987. He was an instructor of instrumental music,
director of the Clifton High School School Band and band director at Woodrow Wilson Middle School. While the high
school band director, the band went to the Tournament of Roses Parade, the World Music Festival, the Worlds Fair in
New York City and Expo 67. As a musician, Mr. Kay performed in various orchestras, including Charlie Ventura, Sonny
Dunham, Buddy Morrow and Tommy Dorsey. He was a member of Lester Society of BNai BRith. Mr. Kay is survived by his
nephew, Michael Kay, and his wife, Wendy; great-niece and nephew, Elyssa and Michael, and his friend, Evelyn DiPeiro.

LUSTBADER. Molly Appel Lustbader, 87, of Monroe Township died Wednesday, July 18, 2007, at the Medical
Center at Princeton. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 12 noon in Mount Sinai Memorial Chapels, Cranbury
Road at Evergreen Boulevard, East Brunswick. Interment will follow at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge. For directions,
please visit www.msmc.us. A Holocaust survivor, Mrs. Lustbader was born in Poland and came to the U.S. in 1950,
residing in Newark and Union for many years before moving to Monroe Township 22 years ago. She was a member of the
Monroe Holocaust Survivors as well as the Jewish Congregation of Concordia and the BNai Brith Concordia Chapter,
both of Monroe Township. Mrs. Lustbader was predeceased by her husband, Jacob, who died in 2005. Surviving are two
sons, Dr. Steven Lustbader and his wife, Gail, of East Brunswick, and Dr. Bruce Lustbader and his wife, Renee, of
Princeton; four grandchildren, Jason and his wife, Jennifer, Amy, Alena, and Erica; her brother-inlaw, Carl Lustbader
and his wife, Ingrid, of Monroe Township, and three nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to the Monroe

NEUWIRTH. Joan C. Steinberg Neuwirth died Sunday, July 22, 2007, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital,
New Brunswick, She was 77. Born in The Bronx, N.Y., she lived in East Brunswick for 36 years, before moving to Monroe,
where she had resided since 1997. She received a master's degree in education from Rutgers University, New Brunswick.
Prior to retiring in 1991, Mrs. Neuwirth was an educator for the N.J. Division of Human Services, Trenton, for 20
years. She enjoyed traveling and had visited almost every continent. She worked tirelessly championing women's
causes in the early years of the women's movement. She was president of the National Organization for Women-NJ
in the 1970s and the East Brunswick Political Caucus, and had served on the Brandeis University National Women's
Committee. She was a member of the East Brunswick Board of Education from 1969 to 1972. In later years she also
worked with AARP on issues relating to the elderly. She was predeceased by her husband, Sidney Neuwirth, in 1997,
and a daughter, Caryn Gordon, in 1988. Surviving are a daughter, Marion Van Derveer, and her husband, David, of
East Brunswick; and a brother, Charles Steinberg, and his wife, Gayle, of Mellville, N.Y. She was a devoted
grandmother to Daniel and his fiancee, Andrea Bredin, and Joshua Van Derveer. Also surviving are a niece and two
nephews. Funeral services will be held today (Tuesday, July 24) at 11:45 a.m. at Mount Sinai Memorial Chapels,
Cranbury Road at Evergreen Blvd., East Brunswick. Interment will follow at Washington Cemetery, South Brunswick.

REICH. Mrs. Cecil Reich (aka Koch), 84, died on July 16, 2007, after a long illness. Graveside funeral
services will be at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin, on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Arrangement are by the
BernheimApter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Born in Newark, daughter of the late Pauline and Joseph
Berman, Mrs. Reich grew up in Newark and was a long-time resident of Hillside and Fords. After her retirement from
the National Cash Register, she and her husband moved to the Clearbrook Community in Monroe Township in 1992. Her
interests and hobbies included antiques, ceramics, baking, decorating, reading, writing, entertaining in her home
and volunteer work. She was an avid story teller from the earliest tales to her three sons up to the column she wrote
for her community newsletter. She was an active participant and past president of the Bnai Brith in Hillside,
volunteered with an organization assisting battered woman and assisted Holocaust survivors in finding housing.
She was a devoted mother of her three sons, Roger, David and the late Robert Koch; grandmother to Mathew, Jeremy
and Adam Koch and great-grandmother to Gabriel and Natalie Koch. She is also survived by her sister, Edith and
brother-in-law, Hy Farer; her brother, Herbert, and sister-in-law, Carol Berman, and daughters-in-law, Amy Levine
and Louise and Jeanette.
RENICK. Mrs. Sylvia Renick (nee Neiman), 92, died on Thursday, July 26, 2007, in Robert Wood Johnson
University Hospital at Rahway. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 29, 2007, at 10 a.m. at the Menorah
Chapels at Millburn, 2950 Vaux Hall Road, Union. Interment is at Beth David Memorial Park, Kenilworth. Born in Newark,
Mrs. Renick lived in Avenel for 53 years. She was the bookkeeper for Petermans restaurant in Newark for many years
before retiring in 1987. Mrs. Renick was one of 13 women to be the founding members of the Colonia chapter of Deborah
Hospital. She was the loving wife of the late Sam Renick; the mother of Stanley and Kenneth Renick; the sister of Dr.
Donald Gold, Sarah Weiss and the late Bella Horwitz; the mother-in-law of Susan Renick and the late Teresa Renick;
the grandmother of Paul, Robert, Seth and Rebekah, and the great-grandmother of Hannah Sophia. Donations can be
made to Deborah Hospital, Browns Mills, N.J. in her memory.
ROTHMAN. Paul Rothman, beloved husband of Brenda (nee Fried) of East Windsor, formerly of Morristown and Far
Rockaway, N.Y., passed Sunday, July 1. Mr. Rothman was a graduate of NYU Stern School of Business and for many years
proprietor of Winstons Discount Center in Morristown. He was a member of the morristown Jewish Center. Mr. Rothman
will be sorely missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his daughter, Beth and her husband, Bruce Eisler;
son, Karl and his wife, Maeve, and granddaughter, Gweyneth. He is also survived by his sisters, Charlotte, Hannah,
Lillian and Laura; brother, George, and many nieces and nephews. Any donation may be made to the Morristown Chapter
of Hadassah.
SABLOSKY. Meyer Sablosky, 80, of Lake Worth, Fla., died on Saturday, July 28, 2007, at the Wellington Regional
Medical Center, Wellington, Fla. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, July 31, 2007, at 11:30 a.m. in the
Menorah Chapels At Millburn, 2950 Vaux Hall Rd., Union, N.J. Interment will follow at the Bnai Abraham Memorial Park,
Union. Born in Newark, Mr. Sablosky lived in Union and Verona before moving to Florida nine years ago. He was the
president of William S. Rich & Son, Newark, for over 50 years before retiring nine years ago. He was a member of the
Cedar Hill Country Club, Livingston and the Azure Masada Lodge 22, F&AM, and was the past president of the Colonia
Chapter of B'nai B'rith. Surviving are his wife, Elisabeth T. (Heil) Sablosky; his daughter, Sherry Sablosky; his
son, Irwin, and his wife, Alyssa Sablosky; a sister, Beatrice Koslowski; three grandchildren, Jayme, Andie and
Jeffrey. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Shirley (Gerber) Sablosky, and his brothers, Bennie, Paul, Harold
and Milton.
SPORN. Irving Sporn, 85, of East Brunswick passed away Sunday, July 22, at his residence, the Atria of
Cranford. Services will be Wednesday, July 25, at 11 a.m. at the Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel,
Livingston. Born in New York on Oct. 1, 1921, Mr. Sporn was raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of Samuel and Bessie
Sporn. He was a graduate of Brooklyn College with a degree in chemistry. Mr. Sporn served in the U.S. Army during
Word War II and completed with honor. Mr. Sporn married his beloved wife, Edith, of almost 60 years. He joined the
Untied States Customs, and worked there for more than 35 years. He excelled and rose to chief chemist for the
Philadelphia Customs Lab and the New York Customs Lab. Following his retirement, Mr. Sporn was very active. He and
Edith had a love for travel, which they did with a passion. Together, they globe-trotted for many years with
trips, ranging from domestic travels to excursions to far lands such as China, Egypt, Israel, Peru and many
more. Mr. Sporn was fond of capturing their global travels on camera. In addition to faithfully raising his
beloved family, Mr. Spron was active in several organizations. Principally, he served as a councilman for the
township of East Brunswick in 1980s, distinguishing himself as a leader in many capacities. He was a man of many
accomplishments and achievements. He was a very active and giving volunteer with the National Council of the
Boy Scouts of America. Mr. Spron was a standout volunteer chairperson for the American Heart Association as
well. He received many honors. He was a member of Bnai Brith and other organizations. Mr. Sporn is survived
by his loving wife, Edith, and is the beloved father of his two sons, Charles and his wife, Helen, and Stuart.
In lieu of flowers, kindly make donations in his memory to the Macular Degeneration Foundation or the National
Eye Institute.
STEINBERG. Mrs. Bernice Steinberg, 81, of Delray Beach, Fla., died Thursday morning, July 26, at her home.
Graveside services will be held Sunday at 11 a.m. at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin. Arrangements are made by
BloomfieldCooper, Manalapan. Born in Newark, Mrs. Steinberg lived in Hillside and Springfield before retiring to
Delray Beach, Fla., in 1993. She was employed by Wakefern Supermarkets for over 20 years. Mrs. Steinberg was an avid
golfer, enjoyed traveling and playing bingo. She was predeceased by her husband, Phillip, in 1982. She is survived by
her son and daughterin-law, Barry and Janet Steinberg of Los Angeles, Calif.; her daughter and son-in-law, Janie and
Lex Breslauer of Coconut Creek, Fla.; her daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Fred Kantrowitz of Aberdeen; her sister,
Iris Heyman of Sunrise, Fla.; her granddaughter, Emily of California, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends

WARSHAW. Edward L. Warshaw, 74, of Colonia died Saturday in the Rahway Hospice. Graveside services will
be held at 2 p.m. today at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin. Arrangements are by Bernheim Apter Kreitzman Suburban
Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston. Born in Linden, Mr. Warshaw moved to Colonia 45 years ago. He
was an accountant with Muckenthaler & Co. in Cranford for 35 years. He received a bachelor of arts degree in
psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson university in 1958 and a bachelor of science degree in accounting from Rutgers
University in 1968. He was a member of the New Jersey Association of Accountants. He is survived by his wife, Arlene
(nee Ornstein), and two sons, Stephen and Evan.
