The Monroe Township Holocaust Survivors group is  hosting its Gala Star Studded Show on August 12 to benefit disabled Israeli war veterans.

The show, in its sixth year, will feature acts such as Mike Burstyn, Dick Capri, and "Destiny" with Tony and Donna.

"These acts have played at famous places around the world," said Monroe Township Holocaust Survivors president Jack Chevlin. "Mike Burstyn has played on Broadway and in Atlantic City, Reno, and Las Vegas. Dick Capri's career spans two continents and [he] has performed for presidents. Tony and Donna are two beautiful people with magnificent voices. This show is going to be spectacular."

The money raised from ticket sales and donations goes to an Israeli organization called Beit Halochem, which provides therapeutic and recreational facilities to help the soldiers resume their lives after an injury. It is an organization that the soldiers have called "a Godsend run by angels on Earth."

"The gratitude these soldiers have to Beit Halochem is incredible," Chevlin said. "These are ambitious kids, only 18 years old. Their entire lives are ahead of them, but they end up blind and crippled. The only way we can help is to sponsor their treatment and rehabilitation so they can resume a normal, dignified life."

Although there is a lot of competition from other shows in the area, Chevlin is confident that they'll match the money they made last year--all $30,000 of it.

"Close to all of the money we raise for Beit Halochem is from this show," Chevlin said. "There's a lot of competition because other shows cost less, but every penny we get is going to help these war veterans get their lives back on track. I would love nothing more than to raise $30,000 again, and I would be esctatic to raise even more."

The benefit concert will be taking place on Sunday, August 12 at 7 p.m. at the Marasco Performing Arts Center at Monroe Township High School in Monroe Township. Tickets are $33 a person. Seats up front for the hard of hearing, vision-impaired, or disabled are $38. To order tickets, please contact Doris Tabor at (609) 655-0622 or Carl Lustbader at (609) 409-0808.
