ADLER. Mr. Marvin H. Adler died Nov. 18, 2008 at Regency Heritage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Somerset. He was 80.

Born in Albany, N.Y., Marvin lived in Piscataway before moving to Bridgewater in 1970. He owned and operated the former Computerland of Somerville for more than 20 years. Prior to that he owned Adler Insurance Agency in Somerville for more than 30 years. He was a member of Temple Sholom in Bridgewater and Raritan Valley Country Club, where he was an avid golfer. He enjoyed attending Broadway shows and will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Mr. Adler is survived by his wife of 58 years, Audrey; son, David; daughters, Marjorie and Joanne; and sister, Renie Hirsch. Interment at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge. Arrangements by Bruce C. BARSON. Mrs. Naomi C. Barson (née Cohen) died in November, 2008.

Born in Brooklyn, Mrs. Barson lived there for nearly her entire life. The last few years she was in Somerset. She was one of six daughters of the late Abraham and Fanny Cohen of Brooklyn. Naomi was a life member of Hadassah. She often enjoyed playing mah jongg and canasta, and of more recent years taking an occasional trip to Atlantic City. Her husband of 60 years, Harry, died in 2004.

Mrs. Barson is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Kalman and Janet Barson of Bridgewater, and Maury and Donna of Manalapan; grandchildren, Rebecca and Emily of Washington, D.C., and Michael and Jenna of New Jersey; twin sister, Miriam of Lynbrook, N.Y.; younger sister, Mildred of Nyack, N.Y.; and nieces and nephews. Interment at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge, with a graveside service by Rabbi Ronald Isaacs of Temple Sholom of Bridgewater.

DISTEL. Mr. Steven Michael Distel died at home Nov. 17, 2008. He was 47.

Born in Newark, Steven lived in East Brunswick for several years. He was a 1983 graduate of Boston University. Following college, he worked at Rutgers Express, a family owned trucking company, and in 1998, he started his own business, Edison Logistics, which he ran until his passing. Steven enjoyed sailing, football, collecting wine and traveling. He was an incredible cook who enjoyed entertaining family and friends with extravagant home-cooked meals. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. Steven treasured his many friends. His long-standing friendships are a testament to who he was. He loved children and they loved him back. He will be greatly missed by all.

Mr. Distel is survived by his loving wife, best friend and high school sweetheart, Alyson Arbeiter Distel; sons, Craig and Brad; parents, Dave and Caryl Distel of North Brunswick; in-laws, Bruce and Susan Arbeiter of Jupiter, Fla.; sister and brother-in-law, Nancy Distel and Bennett Lieber of Maplewood; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Greg and Dara Busch of South Orange and Marshal Solomon of Manhattan Beach, Calif.; one niece and five nephews. FEINGOLD. Mrs. Esther Feingold (née Siegel) Nov. 27, 2008 at home. She was 97.

Born in Paterson, Mrs. Feingold was raised there, and later worked as a bookkeeper. She then married and moved to Hillside in 1950. She was a life member of Hadassah, and as recording secretary of the Elizabeth chapter, was honored at the Gala Legacy Luncheon for her many years of service. As a person with a lifelong thirst for knowledge, while in her 80s, she attended Kean University, where she was an honor student. Her husband, the late Saul Feingold, was the owner of the Goldbell Bakery in Roselle. Mrs. Feingold never had a bad word to say. Her family was her life.

Mrs. Feingold is survived by her daughter, Gail Feingold, M.D.; son, Aaron J. Feingold, M.D.; stepdaughters, Bernice Slater and Rhonda Schulman; grandchildren, Gerri Schulman M.D., Bruce Schulman M.D., Robert Schulman, Danny Slater M.D., Gerri Schneider, Jackie Solomon, Jonathan Lake, Michael Lake, Zara Feingold and Rachel Feingold; and 11 great-grandchildren. FRIEDMAN. Dr. Malcolm Friedman died Nov. 24, 2008 at Cranbury Center, Monroe. He was 80.

Born on the Lower East Side of New York, Dr. Friedman resided in Stonington, Conn., and Palm Beach, Fla., before moving to East Brunswick two years ago. Prior to retiring, he was assistant dean of education at Long Island University's Brooklyn campus. He had a long and distinguished career with the New York City Board of Education, serving first as a teacher, then assistant principal and principal, as well as director of reading for New York City public schools. He had also served as adjunct professor at both Hunter College and St. John's University in New York City. A graduate of Townsend Harris High School, New York City, he completed his undergraduate studies at New York University, Manhattan, received a master's degree from Brooklyn College, Brooklyn, and a doctor of education from Yeshiva University, New York City. He was past president of the New York City Elementary Principal's Association (NYCESPA) and a member of the Council of Supervisors and Administrators of New York City, as well as the Academy of Public Education. While at his Connecticut home, he served as a volunteer at Mystic Seaport and in Palm Beach, volunteered at the Moss Geriatric Center and was a gourmet cook. He was a member of the Bay Ridge Jewish Center in Brooklyn.

Dr. Friedman is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Marci and Patrick Carestia of East Brunswick; daughter-in-law, Wanda Ortiz of Staten Island; and grandchildren, Allison Carestia and Richard Friedman. GLUCKMAN. Mrs. Rita Hyman Gluckman died Nov. 22, 2008 at home. She was 86.

Born in Brockton, Mass., Mrs. Gluckman lived in North Brunswick before moving to Monroe, nine years ago. She was a longtime member of Congregation Ahavas Achim in Highland Park before recently joining the Jewish Congregation of Concordia, Monroe.

Mrs. Gluckman is survived by her husband of 62 years, Herbert W.; daughter and son-in-law, Harriet Gluckman Mehlman and Fred of Larchmont, N.Y.; son, Robert of Pittsburgh, Pa.; sister, Betty Levinson of New Jersey; and grandchildren, Sarah Jacobson and her husband, Michael, Julia Mehlman, Ella, Allyson and Heather Gluckman. GOODMAN. Mr. Robert A. Goodman, 74 died peacefully at home Nov. 16, 2008. He was 74.

Born in Brooklyn, Bob graduated from Cornell University and Harvard Law School. After completing his service in the U.S. Army as a Lieutenant, Bob embarked upon a career as a labor lawyer, representing labor unions in NYC, and then working as an attorney for the National Labor Relations Board in Newark, as well as for the N.J. Attorney General's Office. He also worked for many years as labor counsel to the ISP (GAF) Corporation, and spent his later years as an arbitrator and mediator in labor and employment cases. A voracious reader, an avid tennis player and all around sports enthusiast, he was liked and respected by all who knew him. He had a great sense of humor, a warm heart and always had a kind word for everyone.

Mr. Goodman is survived by his wife of 48 years, Ellie; sons and daughter in-law, Larry and Cathy Margolis, and Josh; grandchildren, Hannah and Adam; and sister Ruth Pasvoll. Interment at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge. GRANT. Mr. Edward Grant died peacefully Nov. 27, 2008 at Hospice by the Sea in Boca Raton, Fla. He was 81.

Born in New York City, Mr. Grant lived in Atlantic Highlands before moving to Lauderhill, Fla. He owned movie theaters in East Brunswick and Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. He was a veteran of the Army and Merchant Marines during World War II.

Mr. Grant is survived by his children, Robert, Howard, Dorothy and Holly; and eight grandchildren. Interment at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin. Arrangements by Bruce C. KATCHEN. Mrs. Kay Zimmerman Katchen died Nov. 15, 2008 at home. She was 83.

Born in Union, Mrs. Katchen lived in Hillside before moving to Bridgewater 52 years ago. She and her husband, Joel, were founding members of Congregation Knesseth Israel in Bound Book. She was a homemaker who was devoted to her family. She was predeceased by her husband.

Mrs. Katchen is survived by her sons, Jeffrey of Cornish, N.H., Robert of Manchester, N.H., and David of Bound Brook; brothers, Nathan Zimmerman of Sarasota, Fla., and Mark Zimmerman of Rockaway, N.J; and grandchildren, Sam, Aaron, Rebecca and Drew Katchen. KLEIN. Mrs. Vera S. Klein died Nov. 16, 2008 at Morristown Memorial Hospital. She was 78.

Vera is survived by Daniel, her husband of 58 years. She is also survived by her daughter, Ellen Becker of Basking Ridge; her son-in-law, Howard; her granddaughters, Susan and Sarah Becker, and her brother, Paul Harris of Sarasota. LISMAN. Dr. Elias Lisman, D.D.S. of Westfield died Nov. 20, 2008, at home.

Born in Newark, Dr. Lisman lived in Irvington and Hillside before moving to Westfield in 1956. A pediatric dentist in Irvington, he began practicing in 1946, starting his own practice in 1949 and maintaining it until 1987. He attended N.Y.U. and graduated from N.Y.U. College of Dentistry in 1942. He was a clinical professor at the Fairleigh Dickinson University School of Dentistry from the time of its opening until the time of its closing, and was a diplomate of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. He served in the Army from 1942 to 1946, attaining the rank of major. He was a free mason for more than 60 years, currently a master mason. Introduced to table tennis at the age of 8, he became an avid player of the game and an active member of the N.J. Table Tennis Association in 1946, becoming the state champion of over age 70 in 1989. In 1993, he won second place at the Maccabee Games in Israel. He was a member of the Table Tennis Association of Westfield. He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth (née Shapiro).

Dr. Lisman is survived by his daughters, Susan and Sharon; sons, Clifford and Joel; and six grandchildren. Interment at Cedar Park Cemetery, Paramus. Arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union.

LONOFF. Mr. Harold Lonoff died at home on Nov. 14, 2008. He was 80.

Born and raised in Newark, Mr. Lonoff graduated from Weequahic High School in the mid 1940s. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He was the proud owner of Clinton Square Auto Parts in Newark. He was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Jan.

Mr. Lonoff is survived by his identical twin sons, Robert and Richard and their wives, Bonnie and Jacqueline; grandchildren, Yin Chu, Hannah, Ariel, Emmy, Ben, Alexis and Aaron; sister, Norma Ross; and nephew, Brad Ross. Interment at B'nai Abraham Memorial Park, Union. Arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel.

OVSIEW. Mr. Seymour Ovsiew died Nov. 24 at R.W. Johnson Medical Center, Hamilton. He was 79.

Born in Elizabeth, Mr. Ovsiew lived in Union, Elizabeth, and Colonia. He spent the last 10 years in the Clearbrook Community. A graduate of Rutgers University, New Brunswick, he was a certified public accountant in private practice. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army in Germany after World War II (occupation forces). He was a member of the Jewish War Veterans of America and the Young Men of Zion, Linden.

Mr. Ovsiew is survived by his beloved wife, Harriet (née Kramer); children, Karen Fischer, Steven, Ted and Eliot Ovsiew; and eight grandchildren. Interment at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin. Arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Memorial Home, Union.

RAWICZ. Mr. Joseph Rawicz died Nov. 28, 2008. He was 95.

Born in Germany, Mr. Rawicz lived in Springfield before moving to Branchburg more than 40 years ago. He was employed as an adjudicator for the U.S. government. He was a veteran of the Army during World War II, receiving a Bronze Star. His first wife, Gladys, died in 1981.

Mr. Rawicz is survived by his wife of 26 years, Elaine Sylvia; children, Harris, Arnold, Karen Cohen and Marla Mencher; grandchildren, Scott, Paul, Lauren, Brandon, Alex, Jason, Eric; and great-grandson, Seth. ROSALSKY. Mrs. Helen (née Fertig) Rosalsky died Dec. 1, 2008, at home with her family at her side. She was 98.

Born in New Brunswick, Mrs. Rosalsky lived in Highland Park for many years. She was a life member of Hadassah and the Sisterhood of the Highland Park Conservative Temple- Conregation Anshe Emeth. She was a charter member of the board of the Central New Jersey Home for the Aged (now called the Regency Heritage Jewish Center) in Somerset. She was also a member of the Brandeis Women's League and a former active member of the Parent Teacher Association in the New Brunswick city schools. Her husband, Henry, died in 1967.

Mrs. Rosalsky is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Herbert Grodnick of Edison; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Samuel H. and Linda Rosalsky of Berkeley Heights; grandchildren, Dr. Jeffrey R. Levenson, Lesley Ann Levenson, David M., Mara B., Rachel E. and Jennifer A. Rosalsky; and great-grandchildren, Hanniel D., Ronete E. and Chloe M. Levenson, Marylin D. and Cassandra J. Winkle, Emanuel Henry and Ashley Marie Freyre. Interment at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery in Iselin. Arrangements by Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel, New Brunswick. ROSENSTOCK. Mr. Walter Rosenstock died Nov. 17, 2008. He was 84.

Born in Milltonberg, Germany, Mr. Rosenstock came to the U.S. in 1936 and settled in Newark and later moved to Monmouth Junction. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy of World War II and served as a fireman on the USS Craven in the Mediterranean. During his youth, he worked in a machine shop and then later worked on his father's farm that housed thousands of laying hens. He later owned and operated a poultry farm, producing eggs, and sold them in the tri-state area. Retired in 1989, he lived in San Diego for six months and New Jersey the other six months. He was also a charter member of Jewish Farmers Community Center in South Brunswick, which is now called Congregation B'nai Tikvah. His son, Alan, died in 2001; his wife of 53 years, Suse, died in 2002.

Mr. Rosenstock is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Francie and Jack Weintraub; daughters and son-in-law, Elaine and Alan Peizer, and Deborah Rosenstock; grandchildren, Sam, Max, Larissa and Ross; and his beloved companion, Beverly Heller. ROSS. Mrs. Lillian Ross of Union died Nov. 20, 2008 at home. She was 86.

Born in Lodz, Poland, Mrs. Ross immigrated to the U.S. and settled in Newark and also lived in Hillside before moving to Union 36 years ago. She was employed by the State of N.J. Disability Department, Newark, for five years before retiring many years ago. She graduated summa cum laude from Kean College in 1978 with a bachelor's degree in psychology. She was a member of the YM-YWHA of Union, Cafe Europa and the Drew University Holocaust Organization. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Sidney.

Mrs. Ross is survived by her sons, Dr. Ira M. Ross and Philip A. Ross, Esq.; sisters, Eva Zysman and Helen Borenstein; and grandchildren, Daniel, Richard, Madeline and Meredith. Interment at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge. Arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union.

SCHATZ. Mrs. Ann Schatz (née Charash) died Nov. 29, 2008 at home. She was 86.

Born in Brody, Poland, Ann came to the United States in 1948, settling in Paterson and living there before moving to Elizabeth in 1953. A Holocaust survivor, she was a member of Jewish Educational Center in Elizabeth, B'nai Israel, Deborah, and a life member of Hadassah and the YM-YWHA of Union. She was also a member of various book clubs in Union county. Her family remembers her as the sweetest and funniest person they ever knew. She never thought of herself and always worried about how the other person felt in any situation. Everyone she met thought of her as a friend. She was predeceased by her husband, Max Schatz.

Mrs. Schatz is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Marsha and Carl Henkel and Susanne and Peter Evans; and grandchildren, Scott and Marc Henkel, and Michael and Lauren Evans. Interment at Elizabeth Jewish Cemetery. Arrangements by Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, Westfield.

SCHWARTZ. Mr. Robert Ira Schwartz died Nov. 23, 2008, at the Barbara E. Cheung Memorial Hospice, Edison. He was 68.

Born in New York City, Mr. Schwartz lived in East Brunswick for the past 30 years. He was a chemical engineer with Mobil Chemical in New York City prior to retiring in 1997. He was a member of the East Brunswick Jewish Center. He also belonged to the Woodstream Golf and Fishing Club and the Boca Raton Fishing Club.

Mr. Schwartz is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sandra; daughters and son-in-law, Heather of East Brunswick and Dr. Rona Kessel and Rabbi David Kessel of Bethesda, Md.; son and daughter-in-law, Adam and Leslie of Princeton; brother, Ronald of Syosset, N.Y.; grandchildren, Abigail, Jacob, Anna, Benjamin and Samuel; and family friend, Dr. Randi Levine. STOFMAN. Mrs. Esther (Brownstein) Stofman died Nov. 16, 2008 at Hunterdon Medical Center, Flemington. She was 93.

Born in Manhattan, Mrs. Stofman lived in East Brunswick from 1957 until 2003, when she moved to live closer to her son in Hunterdon County. Prior to her marriage in 1949, she was employed for many years as an office manager for the architect S. Brian Baylinson, and as an investigator for the Wage and Hour division of the U.S. Department of Labor. In addition to her total devotion to her family, she was also known for her warmth and generosity to all she met. She possessed an inquisitive, analytical mind, and was a lifelong avid reader up until her passing. Her husband, Edward, died in 1989.

Mrs. Stofman is survived by her son, Daniel of Whitehouse Station; daughters and son-in-law, Maida Stofman of East Walpole, Mass., and Paula and Christopher Andrews of Australia; and grandchildren, Melanie and Simon. Interment at Beth El Cemetery, Washington.

TESCHNER. Mrs. Merle Freya Teschner (née Berkowitz) died Nov. 27, 2008 at the Kindred Hospital of Morris County in Dover. She was 74.

Born in Orange, Mrs. Teschner lived in East Brunswick before moving to Rockaway six and a half years ago. She received a B.S. in education from Montclair University in 1957 and an M.S. in special education from Columbia University in 1969. She began a program leading to a Ph.D. in education. She taught at the Willis School, Plainfield; when it closed she and a group of dedicated teachers founded the Center School for children with learning disabilities, which is now in Highland Park. There she taught and was a board member. At the Center School she taught the first class for preschool children with learning disabilities in N.J. She later completed the requirements for and was designated a learning disabled teacher-consultant. In 1985 she left Center School and returned to teaching in public schools in New Brunswick, where she taught at grade school levels 5-8. She also was certified to teach at levels preschool-12.

Mrs. Teschner is survived by her husband, David; son, Michael H.; daughter-in-law, Dona S.; daughter, Allison Scott Teschner; and granddaughter, Cassandra Ryan Teschner.
