Poetry Place: The snake and the goat kid

December 5, 2008

Under a log, disgusting Snake was reeling,

As always, hating everything on Earth:

You know, some snakes have no other

     feeling -

That's how God created them at birth.

Close by, amidst serenity primeval

Young Kid was frolicking -

          no Snakes or other evil

In mind of his.

          When Snake uncoiled like spring

And thrust his fangs into Kid's leg, with

     venomous sting.

The sky went dark before the young Kid's eyes,

The poison caused an unbearable ache.

"What wrong did I to you?" - he questioned Snake. -

"Who knows?

          I surmise

You could have stepped on me and crushed my head,

Then fled.

I had to brace

For possible attack, and bit you, just in case," -

Was Snake's response, unkind and snide.

"O no," - Kid cried,

And died.

Those with a heart made in an evil fashion,
Have no room for friendship or compassion;
Hate, loathing, and anger only there abound:
They see a foe in everyone around.
