BELL. Mrs. Bertha S. Bell died Dec. 10, 2009, after losing her battle with breast cancer. She was 87.

Bertha lived in Edison for many years before moving to Monroe. Before retiring, she and her late husband, Alexander, owned Bell's Drugs in Edison. She will always be remembered as a wonderful friend, confidante and storyteller. She will be missed by all.

Mrs. Bell is survived by her loving children, Sande Breakstone and Victor Bell and their spouses, Ronald Garfunkel and Lynn Bell; grandchildren Addie and Eric Bell; nieces and nephews, Leah Brown-Klein, Amy, Tom, David and Jill Brown; and great-great-nieces and nephew, Hannah, Brandon, Solana and Ocean Brown. BERKOWITZ. Mr. Manny Berkowitz died Dec. 12, 2009 at his daughter's home in West Orange after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was 83.

Born in Poland, Mr. Berkowitz survived the Holocaust and immigrated to the United States in 1947. He moved to Lakewood in the 1960s and lived there before moving to Florida 20 years ago. He was a self-employed builder in Ocean County and owned various other businesses before he retired.

Mr. Berkowitz is survived by his beloved wife, Ann, to whom he was married since 1953; sons and daughter-in-law, Bernard of Brick, and Steven and Susan of Ocean; daughter, Judy Schwartzman of West Orange; and grandchildren, Zachary, Rachel, Ariel, and Juliana. BROWN. Mrs. Miriam Brown (nee Barnet) died Dec. 12, 2009 at Overlook Hospital. She was 90.

Born in Elizabeth, the daughter of Isadore and Anna Barnet, Miriam lived there for many years before moving to Springfield and then Westfield. She was a member of Temple Emanu-El in Westfield, the Friendship Club, Hadassah and B'nai B'rith. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 65 years, Harold; and her brother, Ben Barnet.

Mrs. Brown is survived by her daughter and sons-in-law, Sharon and Claude Zahn of Livingston; granddaughter, Alanna Zahn Davis and her husband, Dr. Damien Davis, of New York City; great-grandson, Harrison Davis; sisters, Sarah Nelson of Clark, and Roslyn Greenberg and her husband, Shelly, of Delray Beach Fla.; and sister-in-law, Hermine Barnet of South Orange. Interment at the J.E.C. Cemetery, Elizabeth. Arrangements by Jewish Memorial Chapel, Clifton. Memorial donations may be made to Overlook Hospital or Temple Emanu-El.

FURCHHEIMER. Mrs. Esther Furchheimer died Nov. 29, 2009. She was 103.

She was predeceased by her husband, Max, and her sister, Sylvia Markowitz.

Mrs. Furchheimer is survived by her sisters, Anne Chernetz and Helen Okyn; brother, Samuel Weintraub; grandchildren, Allen Mattison and his wife Cara, and Eric Mattison; and great-grandchildren, Rachel Melissa Mattison and Benjamin Maxwell Mattison. HASHKOWITZ. Mrs. Ida Hashkowitz died Dec. 9, 2009 at home. She was 85.

Born and raised in Montreal, Ida came to the United States after she married her beloved William in 1943. She lived in Elizabeth and moved to Jackson in 1996. She was a bookkeeper at Kean College in Union for many years. She was predeceased by her dear husband of 55 years, William.

Mrs. Hashkowitz is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Lee Drummond of Waretown, and Dale and Andy Malekoff of Long Beach, N.Y.; grandchildren, Leanne, Corey, Jamie, and Darren; and great-grandchildren, Emily and Jake. Interment at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge. Arrangements by Belkoff-Goldstein Funeral Chapel, Lakewood. RADIN. Mr. Philip David Radin died Dec. 9, 2009 at home. He was 77.

Born in New York City, Mr. Radin lived in East Brunswick for 40 years before moving to Monroe two years ago. He was an electrical engineer. He was an Army veteran during the Korean conflict.

Mr. Radin is survived by his wife, Miriam Spilberg Radin; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Melissa of Livingston; sisters, Anita Rivkin of Hackensack, and Arline Mitnick of West Paterson; and grandchildren, Jacob and Josh. Interment at Cedar Park Cemetery, Paramus. Arrangements by Mount Sinai Memorial Chapels, East Brunswick. UMAN. Mrs. Marion "Mikki" (nee Kloper) Uman died Dec. 8, 2009, at the Haven Hospice at JFK Medical Center, Edison. She was 88.

Born and raised in the Bronx, Mrs. Uman lived in Linden before moving to Edison 49 years ago. She was employed by Bell Telephone as an operator for many years. Before retiring in the 1980s, Mikki had worked in the Water Department for the Edison Township Public Works. She was an opera singer, a ballroom dancer and loved to ride horses. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, and a member and president of the Sisterhood of Temple Beth El/Edison Jewish Community Center. She also ran the kitchen for bingo, belonged to the temple's couples bowling league and the Edison senior citizens. Her husband of 52 years, Aaron, died in 2008. She was also predeceased by her sister, Adele Kesten.

Mrs. Uman is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Alane and Ronald Levine and Gayle Uman, both of Edison; grandchildren, Jonathan Levine and his girlfriend Jennifer Peacock, and Jessica Levine; nieces, Barbara Uriarte, Judith Uman, and Lollie Charland; and nephews, Michael and Steven Uman. Interment at Beth David Cemetery, Elmont, N.Y. Arrangements by Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel, New Brunswick.
