BROTTMAN. Mr. Jack Brottman died Nov. 24, 2009, at N.Y. Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. He was 73.

Born in Poland, Jack survived the Holocaust by wandering and hiding in the fields as a child with his two brothers and his sister with the help of his brave and resourceful mother, of blessed memory. He immigrated to America in 1949 and attended Lakewood High School, where he made numerous friends, whose friendships have lasted all his life. He served in the Army 1957-1960. He was a sales manager for Hamilton Chrysler, Hamilton, until his retirement.

Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Bette; sons, Michael and Daniel; daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Michael Helff of Florida, and Michelle and John Owen of California; sister, Regina Zektzer of Lakewood; brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul and Ana of Jackson, and Johnny and Florence of East Windsor; grandchildren, Alexander and Sarah Brottman, and Jonathan and Rebecca Helff; and many friends. Memorial donations may be made to N.Y. Columbia Presbyterian Hospital; Congregation Adath Israel, Lawrenceville; or the American Heart Association. Interment at Fountain Lawn Memorial Park, Ewing. FREDERICK. Mrs. Myra Frederick died Nov. 6, 2009, in Freehold. She was 66.

Born in Brooklyn, Mrs. Frederick was raised in Newark and Roselle. She met and married Neil in 1964. They lived in Colonia for 35 years. She was an active member of its Sisterhood, and was on the executive board of Temple Ohev Shalom, Concordia. She was a secretary at Mandell Plumbing and Heating, Metuchen. When she relocated to Jackson she became very involved with Brandeis and held a board position for four years.

Myra is survived by her husband, Neil; sons, Steven of Colonia and Scott of Marlboro; brother, Owen Hacker of Morganville; and granddaughters, Abigail and Madelyn. Interment at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin. Arrangements by Goldstein Funeral Chapel, Edison.

MESNICK. Mr. Herbert Mesnick died Nov. 24, 2009, at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold. He was 89.

Born and raised in Passaic, Mr. Mesnick lived in Old Bridge for 28 years before moving to Marlboro 21 years ago. He was a sergeant in the Air Force during World War II, and was an active member of the Jewish War Veterans Post 972. He worked in Education for 32-and-a-half years, most recently as a learning disabilities teacher consultant for the Scotch Plains/Fanwood board of education. He retired in 1988. He was pre-deceased by his sister, Estelle Graulich of Calif.

Mr. Mesnick is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Hilda; daughters and sons-in law, Donna and Alan Bogart of Parsippany, Nancy and Kent Benziger of Newburgh, N.Y., and Jane and Ronald Stringham of Marlboro; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Ruth Ness of Cedar Grove; and brothers, Sam Mesnick of Oakland, Calif., and Donald Samis of Highland Beach, Fla. Interment at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge. Arrangements by Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Manalapan. MILLER. Mr. Leo Miller died Nov. 24, 2009, at Tallwoods Care Center in Bayville.

Born in the Bronx, Leo lived in the Lakewood area for 58 years. He received his B.S. degree from Cornell University, and his master's degree in animal husbandry from Kansas State University. He served in the Army during World War II, and later worked as a computer specialist as a civilian employee for the Department of Defense at Fort Monmouth. His beloved wife of 51 years, Celia, died in 2001. He was also predeceased by his sister, Anita Goldberger.

Mr. Miller is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Philip M. and Laura F. of Barnegat; daughters and sons-in-law, Ellen D. and David J. Smith of Beachwood, and Dr. Marlene E. Miller and Hollis Goode of Rockwall, Texas; and grandchildren, Stephanie, Matthew, Emily, and Rachel. Interment at the Freehold Hebrew Benefit Society Cemetery. NELSON. Dr. Walter K. Nelson died Nov. 22, 2009 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. He was 105.

Born in Providence, R.I., Dr. Nelson lived in Metuchen for 70 years before moving to Edison six years ago. He was the first president of Temple Neve Shalom in Metuchen from 1938 to 1940 and was president again from 1949 to 1951. He received his Ph.D. in chemistry from Brown University in 1930 and married Jeanette (nee Perlman) upon graduation. Walter and Jeanette moved from Brooklyn to Metuchen in 1935, and he began working as a research chemist at NL Industries. In addition to being credited with 120 patents from NL, he also performed original research on the synthetic diamond. He was manager of Titanium Products Division at NL which replaced lead in paint products. He was also treasurer of the local Girl Scout Chapter in Metuchen. His wife of 71 years, Jeanette, died in 2000. He was also predeceased by his granddaughter, Tamara.

Dr. Nelson is survived by his daughters, Eleanor Massey of Metuchen, and Geraldine Alfandre Oldman of Martinsville; grandchildren, Henry, David, Michael, Jonathan, Rachael, Elyse and Jocelyn; 12 great-grandchildren; and brother, Samuel of Cranston, R.I. PENNER. Mr. Abraham Penner died Nov. 25, 2009. He was 95.

An Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Penner owned and operated Penner Bros. Toys and Juvenile Furniture on Broadway in Bayonne for 45 years, retiring in 1979. He was a member of Kiwanis, The 33rd Street Club, and the " 49th Street " Synagogue. He was predeceased by his late wife Sylvia.

Mr. Penner is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Jeffrey and Phyllis, and Joel Penner and Pamela Bowles; daughter, Amy Colburn; grandchildren, Scott and his wife, Dr. Rebecca Rokow-Penner, Jason, Eric, Sarah and Rebekkah; and great-grandson, Benjamin. Interment at United Hebrew Cemetery, Staten Island. Arrangements by Gutterman Bros., Bayonne.

SLOTKIN. Mr. Morris Slotkin died Nov. 30, 2009. He had just turned 90.

A 1938 graduate of Bayonne H.S., Mr. Slotkin graduated from The Cooper Union. His early artistic abilities led him to illustrate his high school yearbook and pen cartoons for Army newspapers. He became an accomplished illustrator and artist in his personal life as well as in his career. He and his wife, Elaine, both avid patrons of the arts, held memberships at numerous area museums including MOMA, the MET and the Newark Museum. He was a member of Temple Emanu-El in Bayonne and was active in the Bayonne JCC where he headed the Adult Arts Program. He was vice president for Graphics and Communication for CitiBank in New York City, retiring in 1985. He was a World War II veteran of the Army Engineers serving in the South Pacific. He was awarded the Bronze Star, and he took great pride in his ability to clear mine fields ahead of advancing troops. He continued his service in the Reserves, retiring as a Master Sergeant.

Mr. Slotkin is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elaine (née Brodsky); daughter and son-in-law, Terise Slotkin and Richard Miller of New York City; and son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Jan of Summit. Memorial donations may be made to Hadassah or Temple Emanu-El, Bayonne.
