CICCHINO. Mrs. Ethel D. Cicchino (nee Ershkowitz) died Jan. 30, 2010 at the JFK Medical Center, Edison. She was 72.

Born in Jersey City, Ethel lived in Woodbridge for the past 48 years. Retiring in 1997, she was a pre-school teacher with the Neighborhood House in Plainfield and also worked with Sarah Coventry Jewelry for 20 years. She was a lifelong member of Temple Adith Israel in Woodbridge and also a member of Temple Neve Shalom in Metuchen. She was a member of JCC of Edison, St. Anthony's Senior's Port Reading, AARP Seniors, and a former writer of the Poets Corner in the Home News Tribune. She graduated from Middlesex County College and from Kean University.

Mrs. Cicchino is survived by her husband of 57 years, Frank; son and daughter-in-law, William and Donna of Rahway; daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Bruce Charmel of Elizabeth; brother, Dr. Herbert Ershkowitz of Haddonfield; and grandchildren, Zachery, Stefan, and Rebecca. COHEN. Mr. Stanley Cohen died Jan. 26, 2010, at Delray Medical Center in Florida. He was 71.

Born in Brooklyn to Frank and Freida Klein Cohen, Mr. Cohen lived in the Fords section of Woodbridge until moving to Delray Beach 11 years ago. He was employed as a carpenter with the Carpenter's Union Local #926 in Brooklyn.

Mr. Cohen is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marcia Germain Cohen; daughter, Fran Pasmanik of Edison; and grandsons, Aaron and David. Interment at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge. Arrangements by Flynn and Son/Koyen Funeral Home, Metuchen.

GOLDSTEIN. Mr. Herbert Goldstein died Jan. 28, 2010 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. He was 84.

Born and raised in Manhattan, Mr. Goldstein lived in Brooklyn for many years before moving to New Jersey. He lived in Freehold for 28 years, and moved to Marlboro four years ago. He was a printer for the Department of the Navy for 35 years; then worked at South Amboy Hospital as a printer for 12 years. His loving wife of 37 years, Anne, died in 1988.

Mr. Goldstein is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law: Jo Aimee and Gerald Ostrov of Long Branch, Emily and Jay Berkowitz of Port Washington, N.Y., and Marjorie Goldstein of Philadelphia; sister, Sylvia Weinberger of Marlboro; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Interment at Agudith Achim Cemetery, Freehold. Arrangements by Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Manalapan. Memorial donations may be made to Hadassah, Southern New Jersey; Society Hill Synagogue of Philadelphia; or a local Jewish federation.

LEMBERG. Mr. David Lemberg died Feb. 1, 2010 at the Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. He was 86.

Born in Elizabeth, David was the son of the late Lena and William Lemberg. He and his wife, Elaine, lived for many years in Iselin and Monroe and most recently in Sunrise of Marlboro. He had a distinguished career in the U.S. Army serving our country during World War II, and fought in Guadalcanal. He worked for International Flavors and Fragrances in Union Beach as a chemist for more than 43 years, retiring in 1987. He was active in the Hagalil Region of the USY, and in the Jewish War Veterans of Monroe. He was predeceased by his brother, Hy.

David is survived by his wife of 66 years, Elaine; daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and Harvey Gutman, Myra D'Agostino, and Phyllis and Curt Resnick; grandchildren, Gail and Michael Devito, Alan and Sharon Gutman, Lisa and Arthur Brodsky, Michael D'Agostino, Barbra Resnick, Matthew Resnick, and Steven Resnick; great-grandchildren, Rachel Devito, Kyle Devito, Justin Devito, and Zachary Gutman; and brother, Seymour. Interment at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Woodbridge. Arrangements by Bloomfield-Cooper Funeral Home, Manalapan. LEVY. Mr. Howard Levy, one of the nation's outstanding aviation photographers, died Jan. 29, 2010, at home. He was 88.

Mr. Levy took his first airplane photograph at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn, not far from his home in 1936 at the age of 15. He sold his first picture a year later. Since then, he has appeared in dozens of publications, including the Smithsonian Magazine, Look, AOPA Pilot, Sport Pilot, Private Pilot, Kitplanes, Pro-pilot, Janes and Air Progress. His work appeared in foreign magazines in England, France, Italy, and Germany. Among the tens of thousands of photos he took were pictures of many one-of-a-kind aircraft. In 2003, he was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by the International Symposium of Photographers. In 2005, the staff of Kitplanes presented him with a Silver Anniversary Lifetime Achievement Award. The American Helicopter Society presented him with their Gold Circle Award in 2005. He was a founding member of the American Aviation Historical Society in 1956 and was a founding member of the Aviation/Space Writers Association. He served in the Air Corps as a photographer in World War II in Africa, Sicily, and Italy. His wife, Shirley, died in 1994. He was also predeceased by his daughter, Janice Daniel.

Howard is survived by his son-in-law, David Daniel of Englishtown; and grandsons, Matthew and Benjamin. Interment at the Freehold Hebrew Benefit Society Cemetery, Freehold. Arrangements by Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan.

MALACHOWSKY. Mrs. Zelda Malachowsky died Jan. 31, 2010 in the home where she raised her children. She was 81.

Born in Brooklyn, Mrs. Malachowsky loved New York City. She graduated from Brooklyn College and received her master's degree in occupational therapy from Columbia University, of which she was very proud. She was an active volunteer, and was a lifelong member of Temple Beth Miriam in Elberon, where she was a member of the Sisterhood and had served on the board of trustees. She lived at the center of a large and ever-expanding network of family and friends, and she was devoted to each and every one. Her husband of 45 years, Dr. Martin Malachowsky, died in 1996.

Mrs. Malachowsky is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Chris and Melody of Los Altos Hills, Calif., and Jeff and Cynthia Guyer of Portland, Ore.; brother and sister-in-law, Martin and Lynne Rutenberg of Newton; and sisters and brother-in-law, Ellen Cohen of Venice Beach, Calif., and Judy and Robert Wunsch of Los Angeles; five grandchildren, Sarah, Michael, Ryan, Spencer, and Parker; and many nieces, nephews, friends, and family. Interment at Temple Beth Miriam Cemetery. Arrangements by Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Ocean. Memorial donations may be made to Helen's Room of the American Cancer Society, Jersey Shore Region, or to the Alzheimer's Association, California Southland Chapter (Los Angeles).

WALD. Mrs. Evelyn Heir Wald died Jan. 29, 2010 at St. Peter's University Hospital, New Brunswick. She was 82.

Born in Jersey City, Mrs. Wald lived in Elizabeth before moving to Monroe eight years ago. Before retiring in 1990, she was a teacher for the Irvington public school system for 46 years. Her first husband, Philip Schwartz, died in 1985. She was also predeceased by a brother and a sister.

Mrs. Wald is survived by her husband of 20 years, Milton; stepsons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Theresa of Virginia Beach, Va., and Jeffrey and Bonnie of Wind Gap, Pa.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a niece, Rochelle Pascale and her husband, Louis, of Queens. Interment at King Solomon Memorial Park, Clifton. Arrangements by Mount Sinai Memorial Chapels, East Brunswick. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.

YOUNG. Mrs. Freda Berlowitz Young died at home in Arlington, Va., Jan. 28, 2010. She was four days shy of her 88th birthday.

Born in Beth Israel Hospital in Manhattan in 1922, Freda grew up in the Bronx, the first child born to parents who had emigrated from Lithuania. At the age of 19, she married Bernard Young of Brooklyn. Their 53-year marriage, filled with love and devotion to one another, produced three children and four grandsons. As was typical of the time, free moments were spent with family and friends, filling one relative's home or another with children and food, and adults talking. Countless friends and family have memories of these numerous times spent together over dozens of years.

Both New Yorkers, they found their home in Plainfield and became very active in the community. Freda was a volunteer dispatcher for the Plainfield Rescue Squad. She recorded for the blind, was president of the Temple Beth El Sisterhood, and volunteered for numerous events in the Plainfield public schools, which her children attended. Freda lived through the Depression, was an Air Force wife during World War II, and trained and became a professional lighting consultant at Capital Lighting in Watchung. A 20-year resident of Plainfield, and then Piscataway and Monroe, her final home was in Arlington, Va. She was predeceased by her parents, Israel and Beatrice Berlowitz; sister, Minka; husband, Bernard; and grandson, Aaron.

Mrs. Young is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Janice Gerard of Arlington, and Nancy and Alan Soschin of Springfield, Va.; son, Michael of Philadelphia; grandsons and wife, Danny and Sydney Soschin, Charles Soschin, and Jesse Gerard; and brothers, Laurence Berlowitz of Massachusetts, and Arthur Berlowitz of California. Interment at Beth Israel Memorial Park, Woodbridge. Arrangements by Higgins Home for Funerals, Plainfield.
