THE JEWISH STATE January 29, 2010 BENEZRA. Mrs. Ruth Benezra died Jan. 19, 2010. She was 92. She was predeceased by her husband, Samuel. Mrs. Benezra is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Marc and Sue of Sterling, Va., and Dr. Clifford and Jo of Miramar, Fla.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Mrs. Clara (nee Halpern) Diamond died Jan. 21, 2010, at Chestnut Hill Hospital, Philadelphia. She was 90. Born in Toronto, Mrs. Diamond lived in Perth Amboy and Edison, then in Philadelphia for the past four years. Her husband, Abe, died in 1995. She was also predeceased by her brother, Sheldon Halpern, and sister, Ruth Finstein. Mrs. Diamond is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Nancy and Charles Nowinski of Ridgewood, and Andrea Diamond of Philadelphia; son and daughter-in-law, Ira and Elayne of East Brunswick; grandchildren, Allie, Lisa, Corey and David; and sisters, Faye Greenspan and Zelda Rapps, both of Toronto. Interment at Beth Israel Memorial Park, Woodbridge. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. GORDON. Mrs. Katie Gordon died peacefully Jan. 23, 2010, at home, with her loving family at her side. She was 90. Born in Newark, Katie previously lived in Holmdel. She was a doting homemaker and led a full and active life. She will be remembered most for her sweet disposition, kindness, and her devotion to her family. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jess. Mrs. Gordon is survived by her adoring children, Marilyn, Jerrold, and Susan. Interment at Beth Israel Memorial Park, Woodbridge. Arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union. GOLDEN. Mr. Lester Golden died Jan. 18, 2010. He was 80. Born and raised in Brooklyn, Mr. Golden moved to Marlboro 25 years ago. He was a teacher, assistant principal and principal for the New York City Board of Education for 31 years. He then worked for the Council of Supervisors and Administrators in New York for eight years, retiring in 1995. He was an active member of the Retired Supervisors Union after his retirement. He also was an active member of Greebriar at Marlboro, including leading a biweekly current events discussion group for the last 13 years. Mr. Golden is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Thelma; daughter, Dr. Roni Golden of Freehold; sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Ellie of Morganville, and Richard and Robin of Larchmont, N.Y.; sisters, Violet Geller and Lillian Pfeffer, both of Delray Beach, Fla.; and eight grandchildren. Interment at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge. Arrangements by Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Manalapan. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. HARRIS. Mr. Harry A. Harris died Jan. 25, 2010 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. He was 72. Born in the Bronx, Mr. Harris lived in Somerset for 34 years before moving to Monroe seven years ago. His entire career before retirement was in the garment center, first as a buyer at the retail end. The major part of his work was in sales and manufacturing in the dress industry. He enjoyed a second career at Warner Lane, Sanford Werfel, artist, until 2008. He belonged to the Army National Guard. He was an avid reader, golfer, billiards player, fisherman, Yankees fan, loving husband, father, and proud grandfather. He was predeceased by his brother, Aaron. Mr. Harris is survived by his wife of 49 years, Adrienne Kinstler Harris; daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa Harris Glass and David, and Tracy Biebelberg and Keith, all of Springfield; sister and brother-in-law, Rhoda and Calvin Friedenberg of West Palm Beach, Fla.; sister-in-law, Muriel Harris of Colorado; grandchildren, Carolyn Singer, Jonah Glass, and Lindsay and Logan Bielbelberg; and many nieces and nephews. She was 71. Born in Lakewood, Mrs. Newmark lived in Long Branch before moving to Oceanport in 1962. She was a member of the Congregation Brothers of Israel, Long Branch, where she was active in the synagogue and the Sisterhood. She was a 36-year member of the Monmouth County Board of Elections. She will always be remembered for her wonderful honey cakes and kind, caring personality. Mrs. Newmark is survived by her husband, Gerald; son and daughter-in-law, Mitchell and Marnie of Metuchen; daughter, Dr. Paula Newmark of Jupiter, Fla.; grandson, Noah Goldstein of Jupiter, Fla.; brother and sister-in-law, Barney and Annette Shapiro of Redondo Beach, Calif.; nephew, Raymond and his wife Suzy; and niece, Melinda Shapiro. Interment at Congregation Brothers of Israel Cemetery, West Long Branch. Arrangements by Woolley Funeral Home, Long Branch. Born in Newark, Arthur lived most of his adult life in North Plainfield and retired to live in Manchester. He was an Army veteran of World War II, where he served as a Special Services entertainer for the troops overseas. He was a longtime sales manager for Fedway Wine and Liquors. He had many interests, including boxing manager, concert promoter, entertainment manager, and racehorse owner. He was the loving, devoted husband and father of three sons, and he made it his mission to nurture and encourage their talents and abilities. Arthur is survived by his wife of 68 years, Hermine; sons, Barry, Ron, and Terry; and grandchildren, Brandon, Gabrielle, and Jocelyn. Interment at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge.
