At Work With Window and Door Outlet Inc. Type of business: Installs replacement windows, doors and siding. Address: 2171 Woodbridge Avenue, Edison Telephone number: 732-393-1008 Web site: www.windowdooroutlet.net Number of employees: 20 Top officer: Jeffrey Aversa, owner How would you describe your business? "We are a locally owned company located at 2171 Woodbridge Ave., Edison. We install insulated vinyl siding, replacement entry doors and windows. "We offer quality products including Sunrise Windows and Great Lakes Windows and Anderson windows. We install windows -- bay, bow, garden, double-hung and casement windows. The Precision Entry Doors products are our staple in installed steel and fiberglass insulated entry doors. We offer insulated siding in 700 colors for all our jobs and use products from manufacturers including CertainTeed. We recently won the CertainTeed Award of Excellence. “There is something for everyone's budget from middle of the road to high-end." What makes your business special? "Everything we sell comes with a lifetime warrantee. Even if you no longer own the home, the guarantee remains. We have windows that actually guarantee a 40 percent fuel savings. All our products are Energy Star approved. We also arrange for the financing. "Our service makes our business special. We cater to our customer's need. We will do one window, or the entire house. A lot of companies won't come out for one window. In Highland Park I went out for two basement windows. We're big enough to handle the big jobs and small enough to do the little jobs. We come in and educate the consumer. We give a free estimate and explain what it will cover. We don't give ‘teaser rates' that end up where we were starting with better products. It makes sense to use a known product because energy rates are going up so if you don't put in quality, there'll be a loss in efficiency. If I would put it in my house, I'll put it in your house. I won't put in anything that won't work in your house. “If someone wants to consider having their house sided, or a window replaced I would tell them to get a few estimates, check out their work and go into their showroom and look around. It's not always the cheapest estimate that is the best. The business has to be licensed in New Jersey to find out if they are go to the better Business Bureau to check them out." What goals do you have for the business? "To continue installing the quality products we provide in window and door replacements or insulated siding. Our customers have been very satisfied and as a result we have huge referral base." How has your business changed? "We used to rent in Highland Park and now we own our building in Edison. We bought this building at 2171 Woodbridge Ave. Edison between Plainfield Ave. and Old Post Road off Route 1. It's a freestanding building with a 2,000-square-foot showroom with samples of every window we install and they are all energy efficient, so over time, there will be savings in the energy bill when installed in the entire house. What was your most important deal? "Every customer is our most important deal. We do a lot of condos and townhouse units. We are approved to do windows in them but our customer base is the homeowner who calls us in, and once we put in a front door, we'll come back and put in the back or sliding doors. Then we might be called to put on siding. “Our installation of the CertainTeed insulated siding product on a 112-year-old Victorian home in Sayerville was written up in the Oct. 2007 issue of Shelter -- a magazine providing information about building products to building trade. The home we worked on was purchased by architect Francesco Salerno and his wife Catherine and they called us to install vinyl siding. When the old shingles were stripped off the home, sections of the house had lost its original clapboard and some parts were down to the studs requiring the re-sheathing the entire house before installing the siding." What changes do you expect in the next 10 years? "The Energy Stars products will drive out those that are not. Everyone is thinking green. By saving energy the product is green. The products we are using are getting better and better -- they offer biodegradable insulation. Environmentally safe pet and children resistant, fire retardant, impermeable all to save energy." What is the most important thing you have learned in your business? "The customer is always right, even when they are wrong. Just treat people the way you want to be treated." What advice would you give to someone considering your line of work? "This is hard work. It's not for someone who wants a 9 to 5 job. I got into this business from working in construction while I was attending Rutgers University, majoring in accounting. I found out I didn't like accounting jobs and sometime after I got my degree I started this business." Is there anything else you would rather be doing? "No. This is for me. As I said, I didn't want to be an accountant -- that would be too boring for me. I need the excitement." |
