BERTIGER. Mr. Charles Bertiger of Elizabeth died at home on Dec. 22, 2007. He was 63.

Born and raised in Elizabeth, Charles graduated from the Jewish Educational Center High School. He was also an active lifetime member of the J.E.C. synagogue. He continued his education at the Rutgers College of Pharmacy, where he earned a bachelor of science and a bachelor of pharmacy. Known as "Charlie" by his customers at Northfield Pharmacy in Livingston, where he served as a pharmacist for over 40 years, he also enjoyed spending time at the Jersey Shore and in Honolulu with his family. He was an avid bowler and played in a league that met on Monday nights.

Charles is survived by his wife, Lee; children, Hannah, Melanie and Max; sister, Beverly; and numerous nieces and nephews. Interment at Gomel Chesed, Elizabeth.

BLACK. Mrs. Ruth G. (nŽe Goldberg) Black of Somerset died Dec. 16, 2007, at Regency Heritage in Somerset. She was 86.

Born in Boston, Mrs. Black lived in Philadelphia, North Bellmore, N.Y., and New York City for 31 years before moving to Somerset two and a half years ago. She was a homemaker, and active in Hadassah in New York.

Mrs. Black is survived by her husband, Saul; sister, Sylvia Greenberg; sons, Barry of East Brunswick and David of Niwot, Colo.; grandchildren, Jeremy, Gideon, Jonathan, Nicholas, and Justin; and great-grandchildren, Shira, Talia, and Eliana. Interment at B’nai Abraham Memorial Park, Union. Arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union.

GERWITZ. Mrs. Ethel R. Yudow Gerwitz died Dec. 18, 2007, at the Medical Center at Princeton. She was 89.

Born in Manhattan, Mrs. Gerwitz lived in Bayside, N.Y., before moving to Monroe in 1985. Before retiring in 1974, she was an elementary school teacher for the New York City board of education, including at P.S. 21, Queens. She graduated from Brooklyn College in 1937. She was a member of the Clearbrook chapters of Brandeis and B’nai B’rith, as well as the Clearbrook Golf Association, all in Monroe. Her husband, Morris "Murray" died in April of 2007. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Raye Hodes and Rose Carneol; and brother, Alex Yudow.

Mrs. Gerwitz is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Richard Gerwitz and Susan Baskin of Santa Monica, Calif.; daughter and son-in-law, Irma and Martin Shore of Manhattan; and grandchildren, Charlotte Rose and William Aaron Baskin-Gerwitz. Interment at Old Montefiore Cemetery, St. Albans, N.Y. Arrangements by Mount Sinai Memorial Chapels, East Brunswick. GINSBERG. Mr. Ronald I. Ginsberg of Cranford died Dec. 19, 2007, at Overlook Hospital, Summit. He was 73.

Born in Newark, Mr. Ginsberg had lived in Cranford most of his life. He was the owner of various Foodtown supermarkets since 1969, most recently in Roselle and Springfield. He as past president and a longtime board member of Foodtown Inc. He was a longtime board member of the New Jersey Food Council and the former Twin County Grocers Association. Mr. Ginsberg was a 40-year member of Temple Beth-El Mekor Chayim of Cranford, and a member of the B’nai B’rith Youth and Lubavitch Youth Organization, the Boys Town of Italy and the Roselle branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. He was bestowed numerous other honors, award and recognitions from many civic groups, charitable organization, religious groups, business associations and youth organizations.

Mr. Ginsberg is survived by his wife, Barbara (Alper); his sons and daughter-in-law, Michael and Meryl of Morganville, and Marc of Scotch Plains; daughters and son-in-law, Marci and Ira Haimowitz of Toms River, and Stacy Ginsberg of Newark, Del.; grandchildren, Sarah, David, Rachel, Matthew, Ross, Sean, Brian, Natalie, Eric and Robyn. Interment at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge. Arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union. Donations may be made in Mr. Ginsberg’s memory to the Susan G. GREENSPAN. Mr. Philip Greenspan of Monroe died Dec. 26, 2007, at home.

Born in Brooklyn, Mr. Greenspan lived in Colonia before moving to Monroe two years ago, where he lived until the time of his death. He received his bachelor’s degree from City College and his master’s degree from Columbia University. He was an accounting teacher at New Dorp High School, Staten Island, where he became assistant principal. From there, he went on to Curtis Evening High School, Staten Island, as its principal. He then worked for the Brooklyn board of education, and was the treasurer of the Retired School Supervisors and Administrators of the New York City board of education for 13 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II in the European Theater and a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Civic Club and the WHOA Board in Monroe, the former Congregation Ohav Shalom in Colonia, and Concordia Temple in Monroe.

Mr. Greenspan is survived by his wife, Beatrice; daughters and sons-in-law, Robynn and Robert Sussman, Jill and Glen Rafferzeder, and Lori and Billy Miller; and grandchildren, Andrew, Scott, Michael, Ashley and Alexis. Interment at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge. Arrangements by Goldstein Funeral Chapel, Inc., Edison.

KASLOFF. Mr. Steven Kasloff died suddenly Dec. 23, 2007, at home. He was 55.

A writer for more than 30 years, Mr. Kasloff was self-employed as a writer for several Hollywood studios. Previously, he was senior vice president at Columbia Pictures and 20th Century Fox. He also was a writer for several New York advertising agencies, including Young and Rubicam, Scali, McCabe and Sloves and Carl Alley. He won several CLEO awards for advertising. A 1974 graduate of the Pratt Institute with a degree in Art Direction, he was a member of the Writers Guild.

Mr. Kasloff is survived by his life partner, Anthony Mendez; parents, Lawrence and Yvette Reiser Kasloff; brother, Stewart Kasloff of Manhattan; sister, Nadine Bennett of Monroe; nephew, Michael Bennett and his wife, Laurie, of Passaic; niece, Melanie Bennett of Hoboken; and great-niece, Shoshana. KRAUTBLATT. Mr. Eugene Krautblatt of Hillside died Dec. 25, 2007, at home.

Born in Newark, Mr. Krautblatt lived in Hillside for most of his life. He was a librarian with the Hillside Public Library for 30 years, and was the director for the last five years. He graduated magna cum laude from Montclair State College. He received his M.A. degree in library science from Rutgers University and received an M.A. degree in English Literature from NYU. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was an accomplished pianist. As a young man, he played the piano with his father playing the violin during the summer months in the Catskill Mountain resorts.

Mr. Krautblatt is survived by his sister, Lois Israel of North Brunswick; niece, Sharri and her husband, Harvey Schneider; nephew, Allen and his wife, Stacey Brill; great-niece, Daphne; and great-nephew, Vincent. Interment at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin. Arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hillside Public Library.

ROSS. Mr. Joseph M. Ross died Dec. 26, 2007, in CentraState Medical Center, Freehold. He was 84.

Born in Linden, Mr. Ross was a lifelong resident until moving to Manalapan two months ago. Prior to retiring in 1987, he was a plumber with Plumbers Local 24, Springfield. He was a member of the Menorah Masonic Order of Bayonne. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and held as a prisoner of war for nine months. His son, Richard Steven, died in 1993.

Mr. Ross is surived by his wife of 58 years, Edith; son and daughter-in-law, Fredric and Beth of Monroe; sister, Esther Farbman of Florida; and grandchildren, Brian and Marc Ross. Interment at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge. Arrangements by Mount Sinai Memorial Chapels, East Brunswick. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

STEIN. Dr. Sidney Stein, 80, of Marlboro, formerly of Short Hills, died at home on Dec. 24, 2007. He was 80.

Born in Newark, Dr. Stein lived in Short Hills for many years and moved to Marlboro several years ago. He had a dental practice in Elizabeth for many years. He was a graduate of Rutgers University and received his D.D.S. from New York University School of Dentistry. He was graduated Phi Beta Kappa. He served during World War II in the U.S. Navy. He was predeceased by his wife, Anita, and son, Robert Stein.

Dr. Stein is survived by his daughters, Debra Denneroff of Glen Cove, N.Y., and Susan Williams of Oakland, Calif.; sister, Frances Goldstein; and brother, Paul Stein. Interment at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin. Arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman, Livingston. Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

SALUTSKY. Mr. Leo Salutsky died Dec. 19, 2007, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. He was 85. Born in Volkovysk, Poland, Mr. Salutsky lived in Long Island and Puerto Rico before moving to Monroe 15 years ago. Before retiring in 1984, he was a jeweler and jewelry industry consultant for many years. He was a World War II Army veteran, having served as a photographer. His sister, Claire Vogel, died in 1998.

Mr. Salutsky is survived by his wife of 23 years, Carlita Racelis Salutsky of Monroe; daughter, Marjorie of Monroe; sons, Christopher and Raymond, both of Monroe; and sisters, Rosalind Packer of Monroe, and Grace Tasgal and Libby Goldberg, both of Israel. Interment at Beth David Cemetery, Elmont, N.Y. Arrangements by Mt. Sinai Memorial Chapels, East Brunswick.

YOSELOFF. Mr. Thomas Yoseloff died Dec. 24, 2007, at home. He was 94.

Born in Sioux City, Iowa, Mr. Yoseloff lived in Princeton and Colts Neck before moving to West Windsor six years ago. Before retiring, he was a book publisher for more than 60 years. He was predeceased by his first wife, Sara; brothers, Martin and Joseph; sister, Frances Spencer; and granddaughter, Miriam Kirchgaessner.

Mr. Yoseloff is survived by his wife of 43 years, Lauretta Sellitti Yoseloff; daughter and son-in-law, Tamar and Andrew Lindesday of London; sons and daughters-in-law, Julien and Darlene, of East Brunswick, and Mark and Patricia of Henderson, Nev.; grandchildren, Michael and Anthony Yoseloff, Jill Schaeffer, and Sara Yoseloff; and great-grandchildren, Alexander Kirchgaessner and Katherine Yoseloff.
