Family: Married to Joshua Berman-Waldorf, an account manager for Starcite of Philadelphia, for 20 years. They have two children: son Sam, a high school sophomore; and Lilly, entering 7th grade. Mother is Marion Berman, a widow who lives in Connecticut. Sister Karen, an executive director of executive director of an Israeli non-profit, lives in Manhattan. Community activities: Serves on Board of National Association of Temple Educators and is in second year term as vice president of finance. Involved many years with Camp Harlam, the Reform movement camp in the Poconos working with special-needs campers. Hobbies: "I learned to knit in college and I continue to knit -- anything with needles and yarn. I also am an avid reader and I like to cook a lot." Self-portrait: "I'm enthusiastic, energetic, and creative. I think the work I do is serious, but I don't take myself seriously. I try to approach life with all it brings." Motto: "It's a saying from the Israeli army: 'This is what we have and with this we will be successful'." Greatest Accomplishment: "It's yet to come." Bad habits: "I don't like to exercise." Favorite TV programs: "I'm totally addicted to the Food Network. I find myself craving what's being made." Favorite food: "Lamb chops or sushi." Best childhood memory:"Beach vacations I took with my parents. We lived in Maryland not at all near the beach. We spent the week at Ocean City, Md. and I became a real beach girl. For the last 12, years my mother has been taking that same vacation with my family, spending a week at Ocean City beach doing all the things I did as a kid -- putting our toes in the water, playing miniature golf, going to the boardwalk -- everything low key." People don't know that... "I met my husband through his sister. I was on the regional board of NFTY Temple Youth Group with my husband's sister. I was first vice president and Ellen Waldorf was the president. That was my senior year in high school and we stayed friends through college when I went to the University of Pennsylvania and she went to Yale. Although I knew her brother Josh, who was then in college when I was in high school, I reconnected with him at Ellen's graduation from Yale." Last book I read: "I read mysteries and I'm partial to those written by female American authors. Right now I'm looking for books to take with me to the beach." Biggest asset in the local Jewish Community: "The collegiality in our community, where we all work together." Biggest problem in the local Jewish community: "That many feel the need of bar/bat mitzvah rather than feeling synagogue is a lifelong obligation." If I had more time I would... "Be at the beach everyday." |
