The JCC of North & South Brunswick Day Camp, located at Congregation B'nai Tikvah, got a visit from Jonesy the Penguin as part of the camp's "Around the World in Five Days" week. He was brought by handlers from Jenkinson's Aquarium, Point Pleasant Beach. The cost of this special program was shared with Camp Gan B'kayitz, located at East Brunswick Jewish Center, which got their visit from Jonesy earlier in the day as part of their Teva (nature) week. Solomon Schechter hosts golf classic

Even after its postponement last month due to inclement weather, nearly 70 golfers still turned out on June 25 for the Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Monmouth County Third Annual Golf Classic held at Battleground Country Club, Manalapan.

The event, considered to be one of the school's biggest yearly fundraisers, was originally slated for June 4. Linda Glickstein, the school's marketing director, felt that event was a success.

"It really is generally a day of camaraderie, and it's also a nice way for us to get the school's name out there, as well as to help us bring money into the school," Glickstein said.

Event chairman Paul Fried was initially nervous about the weather, which started out a bit overcast. In the end, though, he was happy to see the vast number of participants in the event, which was supposed to be 74.

"Each year that we've had the event, it's pretty much been the same number of people," Fried explained. "The main objective of the day was to raise money for the school, and we definitely accomplished that. We had a nice turnout this year, and my hope for years to come is that this event can grow more and more. It's nice to see that people want to us out and raise funds."

Fried also mentioned that, besides last week's golf outing, the other big event that the school hosts is a dinner dance. He said he'd like to see the golf event become as popular.

"If more people can get involved in our golf outing, that'd be great," Fried said. "It's something that benefits the school and brings not only money, but notoriety as well." Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
