BRETHOLTZ. Mrs. Dorothea Bretholtz died Feb. 24, 2009. She was 89.

Born and raised in Somerville, Dorothea lived there for more than 30 years, as well as in New York before moving to Philadelphia in 2003. She was a supervisor in the International Money Transfer Department for Chase Manhattan Bank in New York for more than 30 years, retiring in 1991. She had a great sense of humor and loved listening to jokes. She enjoyed going to the theatre and will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Both her husband, Nathan, and her son, Louis, died in 1964.

Mrs. Bretholtz is survived by her nephew, Richard Markowitz and his wife Marlene; great-nephews, Howard and his wife Julia, and Steven and his wife Dena. Interment at Temple Sholom Cemetery, Bridgewater. Arrangements by Bruce C. VanArsdale Funeral Home, Somerville.

DASH. Mrs. Martha Dash died March 1, 2009 at home. She was 89.

Originally from Brooklyn, Martha lived in Elizabeth for more than 50 years. She was then a resident of Sunrise Assisted Living of Westfield for five years before moving to an apartment in Springfield with her caregivers for the past seven months. She was a member of the Jewish War Veterans Post 63 Ladies Auxiliary and was a volunteer at the former Elizabeth General Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley J.

Mrs. Dash is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Rhona and Nat Fiore; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Wendy; grandchildren, Carrie, Kevin and Nicole; and sister, Toby Rosen of Florida. Interment at Gomel Chesed Cemetery, Newark. Arrangements by Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, Westfield. GUTKIN. Mrs. Libbie E. Gutkin died at home Feb. 28, 2009. She was 86.

Libbie was born in Roselle, where her parents were founders of the First Avenue Synagogue. She attended New York University and earned her R.N. license at the Elizabeth General Hospital School of Nursing, rising to the position of night supervisor. Later Libbie was employed in the family business, Harris Paint Products. She was a member of Congregation Anshe Chesed and its Sisterhood, and was a past treasurer of the Linden chapter of Deborah Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband, Irving; son, Paul; and brother, Preston Perlman.

Libbie is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Esther and David Schenker of Israel, and Clara and Laurence Halper of the former Cornell Dairy Farm of Piscataway; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Interment at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin.

HOLSTEIN. Dr. Albert A. Holstein died Feb. 27, 2009. He was 91.

Born and raised in Jersey City, Dr. Holstein was the son of Sarah Ruskin Holstein and Jacob Holstein, owners of Holstein's Department Store on Jackson Ave. He attended St. Peter's College before continuing on to receive his DDS from Georgetown University Dental School. He practiced dentistry in Jersey City for nearly 50 years. He was predeceased by his sisters, Clara Feldman and Libby Bergen.

Dr. Holstein is survived by his wife Eleanor; their sons, Paul of Delmar, N.Y. and Neil of Southport, Conn.; children from his previous marriage, Jeffrey Danneman of New York, David Holstein of Massachusetts and Robyn Holstein Glass of Maryland; and seven grandchildren. KEREN. Mrs. Gloria S. Keren died March 9, 2009 at JFK Haven Hospice in Edison. She was 79.

Born in the Bronx, Mrs. Keren lived in Easton, Pa., Long Island, North Brunswick and North Carolina before moving to Iselin three years ago. In 1951 she received a bachelor's in education from East Stroudsburg State Teacher's College, now East Stroudsburg University. Most recently she was a receptionist at the YM-YWHA, Highland Park, for five years. Prior to that she was an administrative assistant for Functional Display Limited, Amityville, N.Y., a 4th- and 5th-grade teacher for North Brunswick, and an executive secretary for Alexander's Department Store. She was active in the Carman Road School PTA and the Sisterhood of Temple Sinai of Massapequa. She was a substitute teacher in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s. Her husband, Arthur, died in 2006.

Mrs. Keren is survived by her sons, Philip D. of Rockville, Md., Dr. Michael S. and his life partner Dr. Thomas Johnson of Plainfield, and Stuart B. and his wife Karen of New Albany, Ohio; and grandchildren, Laura, Daniel, Isabelle and Aenea. MACALUSO. Mrs. Edith (née Thompson) Macaluso died Feb. 22, 2009 at home. She was 93.

Born and raised in Jersey City, Mrs. Macaluso lived in Brooklyn, and Concordia of Monroe before moving to Pompton Plains five years ago. She was a bookkeeper for Medallion Pleating and Stitching Company in Brooklyn before retiring many years ago. Her husband, Frank, died in 1982.

Mrs. Macaluso is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Art Geiger of Livingston, and Ellen and Bernie Rosengart of Edison; grandchildren, Adam, Jenna and Judd; and great-granddaughter, Hazel. She had a vast extended family of nieces, nephews, and surrogate grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Interment at B'nai Abraham Memorial Park, Union. NAMAN. Mrs. Dorothy Hart Naman died March 4, 2009 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. She was 86.

Born in Philadelphia, Mrs. Naman lived in Somerset before moving to Monroe 21 years ago. Before retiring, she was a secretary for Naman Realty, where she worked for 20 years. Her husband, Joseph, died in 1987; her granddaughter, Jessica, died in 2003. She was also predeceased by her brother, Sol Hart.

Mrs. Naman is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Joseph Donahue of Rydal, Pa.; son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Janet of Somerset; and grandchildren, Laura, Melissa, Michael and Matthew. RAND. Mr. Henry S. Rand died Feb. 25, 2009 at home. He was 91.

Born in Brooklyn, Mr. Rand lived in Monroe since 1982. He owned and operated Rand Appliance Repair, Brooklyn, for 35 years. He was a gifted amateur photographer who won numerous awards and was the official photographer for Monroe for many years. He taught photography, gave slide show lectures and brought photography alive to school children. He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran, serving in the Pacific Theater. His wife, Ethel Fowdem Rand, died in 2002.

Mr. Rand is survived by his daughter, Judith Rand Dichter and her husband, Barry, of Larchmont, N.Y.; son, Michael Rand and his wife, Anne, of Columbia, Md.; sister, Pearl Rand Rosenthal of Deerfield Beach, Fla.; and grandchildren, Dara Glenn and her husband, David, Jory Rand and his wife, Joeanna, Rebecca Dichter and her fiancé, Richard Segaloff, and Jason Dichter; and great-grandchildren, Eli and Caleb Glenn. ROSENFELD. Mrs. Ruth H. Rosenfeld died Feb. 15, 2009. She was 92.

Born in Paterson, Ruth lived in Elmwood Park and Barnegat before moving to Cedar Crest Retirement Community, Pompton Plains, in 2006. She was employed by Bloomingdales in Hackensack as a department manager for 25 years before retiring in 1976. She was a member and former president of Elmwood Park and Long Beach Island Jewish Community Centers. She was also a member of Hadassah and Sisterhood, and volunteered at polls during elections in Barnegat. Her husband, Albert, died in 1999.

Mrs. Rosenfeld is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Barry and Karen, and Michael and Susan; four grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. Interment at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge. Arrangements by Bruce C. VanArsdale Funeral Home, Somerville.

ROTHSTEIN. Mrs. Lorraine Rothstein died Feb. 24, 2009 at Somerset Medical Center, Somerville. She was 81.

Born in Newark, Mrs. Rothstein lived in Union and Springfield before moving to Boynton Beach, Fla., 16 years ago. She was an administrative assistant for Brooklawn Gardens in Mountainside for 28 years before retiring in 1993.

Mrs. Rothstein is survived by her husband, Seymour; son, Ronald; daughter, Karen Rothstein Meyer and her husband, Joseph; and grandchildren, Lauren Rothstein Swigert and her husband, Teddy, Andrew Meyer and Brandon Meyer. Entombment at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge. Arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union.

STEINMAN. Mrs. Sue Steinman (née Ross) died Feb. 24, 2009. She was 62.

Retiring in 2003, Sue was a devoted third grade teacher for the Union City Board of Education for 36 years. A graduate of Douglass College, Sue was a member of the NEA and NJEA, past president of the Bayonne chapter of the American Jewish Congress and of Temple Sholom of West Essex Sisterhood, and past vice president of Temple Sholom.

Sue is survived by her beloved husband, Larry; children, Max, Mark and Shana Neril; and brother, David Ross. Arrangements by J.L. Apter Memorial Chapels of Cedar Grove. STERNBACH. Mr. Martin H. Sternbach died Feb. 25, 2009 at Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood. He was 81.

Born in Newark, Martin lived in Union before moving to Lakewood eight and a half years ago. He was an advertising production manager for the pharmaceutical company, Winthrop Products Inc. in New York City.

Martin is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Harriet; daughters and sons-in-law, Laurel and Randal Nelson of Poway, Calif., and Nancy and Jonathan Goldman of Marietta, Ga.; brother, Leonard of Princeton; and grandchildren, Amanda, Greg, Ariana and Elyssa. TUCH. Mrs. Belle Tuch died peacefully Feb. 23, 2009. She was 95.

Mrs. Tuch came to the United States from Poland as a young girl. She lived most of her married life in Jersey City, moving to North Miami Beach, Fla., when her husband retired. In her later years she lived in South Orange and then West Orange. She devoted her life to raising her family and helping those less fortunate than she. She transcribed children's books into Braille and was active in Jewish organizations. She was president of the Sisterhood of Temple Beth El in Jersey City, as well as the Jersey City chapter of Hadassah. She worked untiringly for the State of Israel. She won awards for her fund raising efforts for the United Jewish Appeal and Red Mogen David, both in Jersey City and Florida. Even after she moved back north to be near her children in her later years, she volunteered her time at Saint Barnabas Medical Center and at the Daughters of Israel. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Samuel, of 54 years, as well as her brother, Joe Feldman, and her sister, Florence Rosansky.

Mrs. Tuch is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Marlene, Eugene and Judith, and Charles and Janice; grandchildren, Neil Tuch and his wife, Adrienne, Steven Tuch and his wife, Robin, Sherry Kravitsky and her husband, Michael, Debra Richardson and her husband, Scott, David Piperno, Jennifer Springer and Marisa Tuch; and great-grandchildren, Bayley, Alexandra, Skylar, Samuel, Aidan, Emery, Michael, Tirza, and Jenny. TURTELTAUB. Mrs. Helen A. Turteltaub died Feb. 26, 2009.

Born in Brooklyn, Mrs. Turteltaub lived there and in Bayonne before moving to Scotch Plains in 1981. She was a life member of Hadassah and a former member of Temple Emanu-el, Bayonne. She was also a member of Brandeis Women. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Leo.

Mrs. Turteltaub is survived by her son-in-law, Ronald Silbergeld; daughter-in-law, Sheila Turteltaub; grandchildren, Adam, Gyll, Todd, Marc and Beth; and great-grandchildren, Alexa, Zoe, Daniel, Lily, and Langston. Interment at United Hebrew Cemetery, Staten Island. Arrangements by The Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union.

ZELLER. Mrs. Debra Karen Rose Zeller died March 5, 2009 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, after a valiant four-year battle with ocular melanoma. She was 51.

Born in Newark, Debra was raised in Iselin, where she attended Kennedy High School and graduated in 1976. She worked for Macy's, Menlo Park, and operated an advertising specialties company, Rosezel Advertising, from home. She always wanted to help others battling cancer and never gave up hope. She loved life and was the social hub of her friends and family. She loved to bake, celebrate every holiday, and entertain; friends and family were frequently treated to impromptu barbeques and parties featuring theme-shaped cakes and decor. She loved to go on vacations with her family, as well as take short drives with her husband to look at houses. She will be sadly missed but happily remembered.

Debra is survived by her husband of 26 years, Robert Zeller; sons, Chad and Ross of Edison; parents, Harry and Joan Rose of Iselin; twin sister, Robin Schaff and her husband, Michael, of East Brunswick, and sister, Susan Snyder and her husband, Stephen, of Kendall Park; mother and father-in-law, Betty and Edward Zeller of Iselin; sisters-in-law, Joan Zeller of Iselin and Pam Gamberale and her husband, Gary, of Woodbridge; brothers-in-law, Craig Zeller of Teaneck and Richard Zeller of North Brunswick; nieces and nephews, Rachel and Aaron Schaff, Eric and Courtney Snyder, and Nicole Zeller; and a large extended family, many friends and her dog, Koko.
