![]() A word about our readers, advertisers, and us
Ron Ostroff THE JEWISH STATE March 27, 2009
If you like what we do at The Jewish State, you probably want us to continue doing it. You can help us do that. It's relatively easy. Most newspapers get their income from a combination of advertising, subscriptions, and single copy sales. Since our newspaper is free and we have some subscriptions, the bulk of our revenue comes from ads. Why do businesses advertise with The Jewish State? Some advertise to support what we do -- providing local news and information to our readers. They also like the idea that we do special things for the community -- such as providing two free business card size ads to unemployed people. Most advertise for a more specific business purpose -- to draw buyers to their door. They want our readers to become their customers. And we want to help them. So we come up with interesting advertising ideas to help attract attention. We come up with marketing plans to help them put their best in front of potential customers. We also design ads to put all this in the best possible light. After that, it's up to you -- our readers and our advertisers' potential customers. What The Jewish State does for you You need to realize that advertisements are also news and information. It could be news of a new shop or service or news of a sale. It could be information about a service you never knew existed. Consumers are the engine that keeps our economy functioning. And despite the current economic climate, people are still buying. You still need clothes. Maybe not as often or as flashy. But you probably won't be doing your own production of "The Emperor's New Clothes" any time soon. You still need to eat. So you go to supermarkets and restaurants. Especially on holidays such as Passover, you need to eat special foods. So you'll shop for the ingredients or the prepared foods. You still need to care for yourself. So you'll go to the doctor and the dentist. You'll continue to take martial arts lessons or go to the health club. You still need to plan for the future. So you'll look at your investments and you'll start talking to your elderly parents about what they want to do next. And you still need to educate and entertain your children. So you'll be working with your children's school, possibly picking a new one and thinking about where to send them for the summer. For all this, we want you to use The Jewish State. Give our advertisers a chance to serve your needs and solve your problems. Use The Jewish State as a directory for living When advertisers get results from an ad in The Jewish State, and they know the business came from our newspaper, they want to continue advertising. That, in turn, will allow us to continue to provide the local news and information you've grown to expect from us. One more thing: When you use our advertisers, be sure to tell them: I saw your ad in The Jewish State.
