COHEN. Mr. Irving Cohen died April 18, 2009 at The Green Mountain Nursing Home in Colechester, Vt. He was 86. Born on July 25, 1922 in Perth Amboy, Mr. Cohen also lived in Edison for 25 years, and moved to Vermont three and a half years ago. He was a co-owner operator of the D. Cohen and Son Hardware and Industrial Supply Co., Perth Amboy. He graduate from Perth Amboy High School in 1940. He received a degree in ceramic engineering from Rutgers University. He was a member of Congregation Shaarey Tefiloh and past president of the YMHA in Perth Amboy. Irving served in the Army Corps of Engineers in the Philippines during World War II. His wife, Anne C., died in 2001. He was also predeceased by his sisters, Frieda Katz, Leah Turkus and Frances Spielman. Mr. Cohen is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Harris and Shawn and of Juneau, Alaska, Howard Neal and Nicola of Jericho, Vt.; granddaughters, Piper, Tayler, and Hadley; and brother and sister-in-law, George and Florence of Monroe. Interment at Beth Israel Cemetery. Arrangements by Flynn and Son Funeral Home, Perth Amboy. GINSBERG. Mrs. Isabel (nee Glass) Ginsberg of Monroe died May 2, 2009 at home. She was 87. Born and raised in Newark, Mrs. Ginsberg lived in Hillside before moving to Monroe 30 years ago. She had been employed with Shulman Fuel Oil Company in Newark. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, Mrs. Ginsberg was president of B’nai B’rith Weequahic Chapter and a member of the Clearbrook Congregation in Monroe. Her husband, Herman, died in 1997. She was also predeceased by her brother, Fred Glass. Mrs. Ginsberg is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Ravitte; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Irv Kobren; brother, Harry; grandchildren, Lauren and Jason; many loving nieces and nephews, and her loving caregiver, Marlene Adams. GITTERMAN. Mr. Arthur Samuel Gitterman of Old Bridge died April 2, 2009 at Haven Hospice at JFK Medical Center, Edison. He was 80. Born and raised in New York City, Mr. Gitterman settled in Old Bridge in 1979. He was an Army veteran. For many years, he was employed by Wiggy in New York City, with his brother-in-law, Jack Weiss. After his retirement, he went on to work for the Monmouth County Parks Department as a greeter at the Longstreet Farm Visitors Center in Holmdel. He was an avid nature photographer and a member and past president of the Raritan Photographic Society and also a member of the Ocean County Camera Club. He was a member of the NRA as well as a pistol instructor. He enjoyed N-gauge model railroading. His first wife, Sandy, died in 1993. Mr. Gitterman is survived by his wife, Marion of Old Bridge; sister, Ruth Weiss of Old Bridge; daughter, Marcy of Old Bridge; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Leslie of Freehold; step-children, Bonnie Swanson of Bethlehem, Pa., Victoria Nemeth of Brick and Luke Swanson of North Carolina; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Arrangements by Highland Park Funeral Home, Highland Park. ROSEN. Ms. Ceil Bauer Rosen died April 8, 2009. She was 105. Mrs. Rosen was predeceased by her beloved husband, David. She was the cherished sister of the late Max Rosen, Esther Shak, Jesse Pearlman, Clara Safier, Louis Rosen, Sonny Rosen and Leon Rosen. She was also a loving aunt, great-aunt and great-great-aunt. Interment at Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Fairview. Arrangements by Eden Memorial Chapels, Fort Lee. ROSENGARTEN. Mrs. Ethel Rosengarten died April 20, 2009 at Regency Heritage, Somerset. She was 95. Born in Berlin, Mrs. Rosengarten moved to Kessel, Germany, after her marriage. They lived in hiding in Brussels, Belgium, during World War II. She and her husband and eldest daughter were all Holocaust survivors. After the war they continued to live in Brussels until 1949, when they immigrated to the United States. Mrs. Rosengarten lived in New York City for 40 years before moving to Highland Park. Her husband, Ulrich, died in 1974. Mrs. Rosengarten is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Marion and David Kornfeld of Highland Park, and Sylvia and Bruce Tucker of East Brunswick; grandchildren, Laurel, Meir, Michael and his wife, Cheryl Kornfeld, Adam Tucker, Lauren and her husband Ken Goldstein; great-grandchildren, Rafi and Gavi Kornfeld; and nephew, Morris Reich of London. Arrangements by The Goldstein Funeral Chapel, Edison. ROSSMAN. Mrs. Sylvia Aida Singer Rossman died Apil 30, 2009 at the Medical Center at Princeton. She was 86. Born in the Bronx, Mrs. Rossman lived there before moving to East Windsor 36 years ago. She was an opera singer for 70 years and was an original member of the East Windsor Rescue Squad. Mrs. Rossman is survived by her husband of 66 years, Jack; sons and daughters-in-law, Lonnie and Helene of East Windsor, and Sheldon and Susan of East Brunswick; grandchildren, Jodie and Morgan, Eric and Mariana, Ian and Cathleen, and Meredith and Daniel; and great-grandchildren, Madeline, Michael, Jacob and Alex. Interment at Floral Park Cemetery, South Brunswick. Arrangements by Mount Sinai Memorial Chapels, East Brunswick. SOLOMON. Mrs. Clara Hyman Solomon died peacefully at home April 24, 2009. She was 102. Born in New York City, Mrs. Solomon moved to Bayonne at an early age. She graduated from Bayonne High School’s Rapid Advance Program in just three years. She was a member of Temple Emanu-El, Temple Beth Am, the Bayonne Jewish Community Center from its earliest days on Lincoln Parkway, Link, and Hadassah. She was a founding member and officer of the Post Road Gardens Senior Association. She was a member of the Cousin Club and Friday Night Mah Jong and Hearts Club. She was a legal secretary for more than 50 years, for the same employer, Ben Lifflander of New York City. After retirement, at age 82, she continued to work as the bookkeeper at the Bayonne optometrist office of her son, Dr. Paul Hyman. Her husband of 66 years, Philip, died in 1998. Mrs. Solomon is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Charles J. and Abby Linett Hyman of California and Dr. Paul and Mary Louise Hyman of Bayonne; brother and sister-in-law, Alfred and Ethel Hyman of Florida; sisters-in-law, Shirley Solomon of Cranford and Shirley Solomon of Florida; grandchildren, Hallie and Richard Donovan, Jeffrey and Dana Hyman and Ryan and Carrie Hyman; great-grandchildren, Ari Benjamin, Nathan and Quinn Hyman and Brody, Ashton and Chase Donovan; and longtime caretaker and companion, Ruth Cabiles. Mrs. Frances Israel Susswein died April 28, 2009 at Monroe Village, Monroe. She was 94. Born in Newburgh, N.Y., Mrs. Susswein lived in Goshen, N.Y. prior to moving to the Rossmoor Community in Monroe in 1979. In 2000 she became a resident of Monroe Village. She graduated from New York University in 1935. She and her late husband, Max, owned and operated Goshen Pharmacy in Goshen for 35 years. She was a social worker for the Orange County, N.Y., Department of Social Services. She was a congregant of Temple Beth El, East Windsor, a life member of Temple Beth Shalm, Florida, N.Y., and a member of Hadassah, Monroe Township Chapter. She did volunteer work for several causes and community organizations. Her daughter, Carol Ann Susswein, died in 1973. Her husband, Max, died in 1985. Mrs. Susswein is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Norma and Richard Saks of Cranbury; brother, Sidney Israel fo Delray Beach, Fla.; sister, Peggy Goldberg fo Newurgh, N.Y.; grandsons and spouses, Mark and Emily, and Brad and Kate Saks; great-granddaughter, Mia; and several nieces and nephews. TEITELBAUM. Mrs. Sylvia A. Braff Teitelbaum died April 28, 2009 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. She was 90. Born in the Bronx, Mrs. Teitelbaum lived on Long Island before moving to East Brunswick 13 years ago. Before retiring in 1993 she was a bookkeeper for for Hazeltine Corp., Greenlawn, N.Y. Her husband, Simon, died in 1983. Her grandson, Steven, died in 2001. Mrs. Teitelbaum is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Maddy of Lexington, Mass.; daughter and son-in-law Janet and Mark Williams of East Brunswick; grandchildren, Sean and Kerri Williams; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The cause was diabetes-related complications. Born in New York City, Ellen was educated at the Birch Wathen School and Barnard College. She was a producer and on-air correspondent at New Jersey Public Television (now the New Jersey Network) in Trenton. After retiring from television production, she worked at Edith’s Lingerie in Princeton. She was predeceased by her husband, Stanford E. Mrs. Wexler is survived by her children, Thomas of London, England, and Elizabeth of New York City, and her sister, Norma Pisar of Los Angeles, Calif. Interment at Princeton Cemetery.
