Fairstein, one of America 's foremost legal experts on crimes of sexual assault and domestic violence, ran the Sex Crimes Unit of the District Attorney's Office in Manhattan from 1976 until 2002. Her first novel, “Final Jeopardy,” was published in 1996 and introduced the character Alexandra Cooper. Cooper returns in Fairstein's latest novel “Killer Heat,” released March 11.
