DENSKY. Mrs. Selma B. Densky died Nov. 17, 2008. She was 86. Mrs. Densky was a founding member of the Plainfield Chapter and the Plantation Chapter of Deborah Hospital. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Samuel. Mrs. Densky is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Theda Levitt, and Sharon and Leonard Coleman; son, Alan Densky; grandchildren, Cheryl, Martin, Allison, Randi and David; great-grandchildren, Zachary, Emily, Gabriella and Gavin; and sister, Bernice Matos. Interment at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge. Memorial donations may be made to Deborah. ERDMAN. Mrs. Helen Erdman died Nov. 11, 2008. She was 80. Born in Poland in 1927, Helen was just a girl when the Nazis came into power. She survived the Stuttgart concentration camp with her mother and sister. After marrying Paul Erdman, they moved to Newark where they owned a business before settling in Hillside. Helen is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Felice and Chet Goldberg; son and daughter-in-law, Harvey and Jodi; grandchildren, Jaimi, Gary, Jonathan, and Jennifer. FRIEDMAN. Mrs. Lillian Friedman died Nov. 11, 2008 at Overlook Hospital in Summit. She was 90. Born in Newark, Mrs. Friedman lived in Hillside for 23 years and then Margate, Fla., from 1976 to 2007 before moving to Springfield last year. She was a bookkeeper for Elizabeth Freight in Irvington for 12 years and most recently was a medical receptionist for Dr. Rita Finkler in Newark for 12 years before retiring in 1976. Mrs. Friedman was a lifelong member of Hadassah, the B'nai B'rith Women, and a member of Temple B'nai Abraham. While in Florida she did volunteer work with Hospice and the Alzheimer's Association. Her husband, Louis, died in 1989. Mrs. Friedman is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Chuck and his wife Karen of Iowa, and Marc and Mindy of Edison; daughter and son-in-law, Cantor Florence Merel and Loren Hurwitz of Chatham; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Lee Recreation Center, 220 South Gilbert, Iowa City, Iowa 52240. GOODMAN. Mr. Robert A. Goodman died peacefully at home Nov. 16, 2008. He was 74. Born in Brooklyn, Bob graduated from Cornell University and Harvard Law School. After completing his service in the U.S. Army as a lieutenant, he embarked upon a career as a labor lawyer, representing labor unions in New York City, and then working as an attorney for the National Labor Relations Board in Newark as well as for the N.J. Attorney General's Office. Bob also worked for many years as labor counsel to the ISP (GAF) Corporation, and spent his later years as an arbitrator and mediator in labor and employment cases. A voracious reader, an avid tennis player and all-around sports enthusiast, Bob was liked and respected by all who knew him. He had a great sense of humor, a warm heart and always had a kind word for everyone. Mr. Goodman is survived by his wife of 48 years, Ellie; sons and daughter-in-law, Larry and Cathy Margolis, and Josh; beloved grandchildren, Hannah and Adam; and sister, Ruth Pasvoll. Interment at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge. GRAY. Mr. Jerry Gray of Edison died Nov. 13, 2008, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. He was 55. Mr. Gray is survived by his wife, Ruth Vogel; sons, Harlan, Skylar and Jared; and brother, Glenn. Interment at Beth Abraham Cemetery, East Brunswick. Arrangements by Goldstein Funeral Chapel, Edison. Memorial donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetic Research Foundation. PANTIRER. Mr. Murray Pantirer died Nov. 7, 2008. He was 83. Mr. Pantirer was born Mejzesz Puntierer in 1925 in Cracow, Poland, where he grew up. In 1942, he was deported for forced labor in Plaszow, then transferred in 1944 to Gross-Rosen and to Brunnlitz to work for Oscar Schindler. He was one of 900 workers at Schindler's munitions factory in Czechoslovakia. At the liberation in 1945, he was the only one of nine family members to survive. He came to the United States in 1949, where he set up a construction firm a year later with his friend Abraham Zuckerman, and Izak Levenstein. From the beginning, each of their developments included a road named after Schindler. Pantirer also contributed to the construction of various Jewish and Holocaust museums, and founded, with Zuckerman, in Schindler's name, a bursary for Hebraic studies in Jerusalem. Mr. Pantirer was a former president of the Jewish Federation of Central New Jersey, a former chair of its annual campaign, and a founding member of its Builders Campaign Division. He was a major contributor to other Jewish causes, including Israel Bonds, and served as a sponsor of the Museum of Jewish Heritage-A Living Memorial to the Holocaust in Manhattan. Mr. Pantirer is survived by his wife, Louise (née Lorber); son, Larry; daughters, Betty Schwartz and Elisa Pines; and nine grandchildren. Arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman. PARNES-PELTZ. Mrs. Jane Parnes-Peltz, 73, died Nov. 16, 2008 in Camden. She was 73. Born in Warsaw, Poland, Jane was a Holocaust survivor. After the war, she immigrated to Montreal; she then moved to Lakewood, where she lived for 25 years before settling in Jamesburg five years ago. She was a life member of Hadassah, active in her community's Yiddish and book clubs, full of life, and loved by all who knew her. Her first husband, Izzio, died in 2002. Mrs. Parnes-Peltz is survived by her husband, Ely Peltz; son and daughter-in-law, David and Pam Parnes of Jackson; daughter and son-in-law, Lina and Dr. Abe Horn of Cherry Hill; and grandchildren, Jennifer, Justin, and Allyssa Horn, and Brooke and Michael Parnes. POLLER. Mr. Norman Poller died Nov. 5, 2008. He was 92. Born in the Bronx, Mr. Poller moved to Clearbrook in Monroe in 1987. Prior to retiring in 1981, he was a publicist for RKO and Buena Vista. Hiw wife, Shirley, died in 2004; his daughter, Judith Bernstein, died in 1993. Mr. Poller is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Diane Stevens and Steven Nurenberg; grandchildren, Mark Stevens and Daniel Stevens, Amanda Bernstein and Julie Bernstein; and great-grandchildren, Sean, Logan, Riley, Joey and Charlie Stevens. Cohen Sharf died Nov. 15, 2008 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. She was 87. Born in Brooklyn, Mrs. Sharf lived in South Orange before moving to Monroe 30 years ago. Prior to retiring, she was a real estate agent for Levinson and Associates, Monroe, for 30 years. Sh was a member of the N.J. Association of Realtors. She was a member of East Brunswick Jewish Center and a life member of Hadassah. Her husband, Charles, died in 1993. Mrs. Sharf is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Alan and Karen of East Brunswick, and Craig and Shelley of Closter; sister, Marilyn Olarsch of Lynbrook, N.Y.; and grandchildren, Ariel, Sam, Jake and Zack. She was 82. Born in Odessa, Ukraine, Mrs. Shtainhorn lived in Elizabeth since 1976. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Karl. Mrs. Shtainhorn is survived by her children, Rudolf Shtainhorn and Genia Meiler; brother, Boris Dinspechin; sister, Mara Faerman; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Mr. Albert Steinman died Nov. 11, 2008, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. He was 84. Born and raised in Manhattan, Mr. Steinman lived in Lakewood most of his life. Always a Jewish and civic minded individual, he was one of the founding members and past president of Congregation Ahavat Shalom, Lakewood; a member of the Lakewood Historical Society; and past president of the local chapter of Deborah. He served in the Army during World War II (1943-45) in the 101st Airborne Division as a paratrooper and Glider. He liberated Dachau concentration camp and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the Robinson Feldstein Post #178 of the Jewish War Veterans. The JWV appointed him as a national liaison to the 101st Airborne Division in 2007. He owned and operated Jordan's Men's Wear in Point Pleasant until his retirement 10 years ago. His loving wife of 61 years, Irene, died in 2007. Mr. Steinman is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Andrea of Atlanta; sister and brother-in-law, Bernice and Dr. Gerald Perseley of Charlotte, N.C.; grandson, Sasha Steinman; and a niece and nephew. Ahavat Shalom) in Lakewood, and the American Cancer Society. WERNER. Dr. Robert H. Werner, Ph.D., CPA, died Nov. 16, 2008, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. He was 68. Born in New York City, Dr. Werner lived in Monmouth Junction before moving to Hightstown last year. He was an accounting professor at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, for 30 years. He was a pioneer in developing an online distance learning program for the Master of Accountancy in Governmental Accounting, as well as it Certificate in Government Financial Management Program at the Rutgers Business School and had been its director since its inception more than 10 years ago. He graduated from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania in 1962 with a degree in economics, and received his MBA from Seton Hall University. He also earned his master's in Public Administration from Rutgers University, and his Ph.D. in Public Administration from New York University. A CPA and member of the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants, he also belonged to the Association of Government Accountants, the AICPA, and the Government Finance Association. He served in the Army Reserve. His son, David, died in 2003. Dr. Werner is survived by his wife of 29 years, Marcella; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Brian Freedman of Rockville, Md.; son, Jonathan of Gainesville, Fla.; and three grandchildren.
