Remembering Rabbi Kahane It is a shameful act for the Israeli government's radio station to ban ads for Kahane memorial services. He was an elected member of the Knesset. Rabbi Kahane was a brilliant orator, writer, rabbi, and lawyer. I was one of only a few rabbis in the country who allowed Rabbi Kahane to speak from the pulpit in my New York synagogue. There were those who wanted to blacklist me for allowing him freedom of speech. He drove up in an old car with no bodyguard and I asked him why he was not being protected. He said to me "all is in God's hands." There were protestors in the street and police with guns on the roof. After his presentation to a basically anti-Kahane audience they clapped in amazement as this outstanding orator changed their minds. He was running for the Knesset. Two weeks before he was murdered, I invited him to speak at my synagogue in New Jersey. He had recently been barred from speaking at other synagogues. He was a giant among men and deserves to be remembered as such.
