BURSTEIN. Hubert Burstein, formerly of Livingston, died at home in Morristown on June 17, 2007. He was 88.
Born in Newark, Mr. Burstein lived in Peekskill, N.Y., for 10 years and in Livingston for 43 years, moving to Florham
Park three years ago. He was a World War II Army veteran. He was the former owner of Universal Wines and Liquors of
Elizabeth for more than 35 years, retiring in 1987. He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and
friend. Mr. Burstein is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley (nee Goldstein); sons and daughter-in-law, Stuart and
Edward and Barbara; sister, Marge Weissman; and grandchildren, Hannah, Barnett, Andrew and Rachel. Interment at King

CANCELL. Anitta Richter Cancell died peacefully in her Millburn home on June 13, 2007.
Mrs. Cancell and her family were forced to flee their native Vienna, Austria, following the Nazi rise to power. They
arrived two years later on Americas welcoming shores. Mrs. Cancell graduated from Newark's South Side High School and
went on to earn her bachelor's degree from Drew University and a master's degree from Teachers College of Columbia
University. She was active in the Short Hills PTA, the Pingry Mothers Association, the League of Women Voters and the
Council of Jewish Women. A lifelong enthusiast of music, Mrs. Cancell's choral pursuits culminated with a successful
concert celebrating the composer, Amy Beach, at Carnegie Hall, New York. She was the first member of her family
elected to public office. She will be greatly missed by her husband of 52 years, David; her daughter, Nadine; her
son-in-law, Craig; and her sons, Ethan and Asa. Arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union.
ENGELBERG. Murray Engelberg, a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army, died June 10, 2007,
in Boca Raton Community Hospital, Boca Raton, Fla. He was 81.
Born in Bayonne, Mr. Engelberg lived in Roselle and Monroe before moving to Delray Beach, Fla., four years ago. He was
a packaging engineer for Revlon in Edison for 15 years, retiring in 1989. A veteran of the United States Army, he was
a member of the Jewish War Veterans, the Free & Associated Masons Bayonne Lodge, and a member of the Suburban Jewish
Center of Linden. He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara (nee Havesom), and a sister, Anita Finkelstein. Mr.
Engelberg is survived by his daughter, Cecelia Diskin of Bloomfield, and grandchildren, Brielle and Sofie. Interment
at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge. Arrangements by Jewish Memorial Chapel, Clifton.
GELLER. Ruth Geller of West Orange died at home on June 13, 2007. She was 97.
Born in Newark, Mrs. Geller lived in West Orange for most of her life. She and her husband, Max, started their family
business, Numac Office Supply of Newark, in 1936, and went on to operate it for more than 60 years. She was a member
of the Sisterhood of Temple B'nai Israel in Irvington and a congregant of Temple Beth El of South Orange. She was
predeceased by her beloved husband, Max, in 1984, and her brother, Herbert Goodman. Mrs. Geller is survived by her
sons, Stanley and Harvey, and three grandchildren. Interment at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge. Arrangements by

GOLDFINGER. Larry Goldfinger of East Brunswick died peacefully on June 18, 2007, at Robert Wood Johnson
University Hospital, New Brunswick. He was 75.
Born in Brooklyn, Mr. Goldfinger lived in Miami, Fla., and Brooklyn prior to moving to East Brunswick in 1969. He was
a disabled Air Force veteran of the Korean War. After the service, he graduated from Long Island University with
honors in retailing. He went on to careers in retail buying, retail operations management and insurance brokerage, and
worked for the New Jersey Department of Labor finding jobs for disabled veterans. Larry loved music, fishing, the
Mets and the Jets. He was a member of Anshe Emeth Memorial Temple, New Brunswick. His parents, Abraham and Edith
Goldfinger, predeceased him. Mr. Goldfinger is survived by his wife of 38 years, Carol Siener Goldfinger; son, Andy
of Virginia; sister, Eleanore Schwartzman of Farmingdale, N.Y.; and a niece and a nephew. Interment at Frost Woods

GROSSMAN. Mrs. Ruth Grossman of Freehold died June 11, 2007, at Applewood Estates, Freehold. She was 87.
Born in New York City, Mrs. Grossman was a long term resident of Clearbrook in Cranbury before moving to Freehold two
years ago. Before her retirement, she and her husband owned and operated the Jaylen Hardware Store in Jersey City. She
was a member of the East Brunswick Jewish Center. Mrs. Grossman is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years,
Milton; sons and daughters-in-law, Jay and Sheila and Leonard and Dora; sister, Dorothy K. Zimmerman; grandchildren,
Lisa, Eric, Susanne, Rivka Chaya, Leah Esther and Seth Aaron; and 11 great-grandchildren. Interment at Beth Israel

KAMINSKY. Martin Kaminsky died June 13, 2007, at Care One, East Brunswick. He was 72.
Born in Brooklyn, Mr. Kaminsky lived there before moving to East Brunswick 22 years ago. He was an operating engineer
with Local 14 I.U.O.E. in Queens, N.Y., for 20 years before retiring in 1985. He served in the Air Force from 1957 to
1961. Mr. Kaminsky is survived by his wife of 46 years, Elaine Levitt Kaminsky; daughter, Robin Reinhold of Spotswood;
brother, Harvey of Queens; and sister, Susan Tosk of Manhattan. Interment at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge.

LIPTON. Julius Lipton of Monroe died June 16, 2007, at home. He was 93.
Born in Newark, Mr. Lipton lived in West Orange before moving to Monroe. He was an accountant for the Internal Revenue
Service for 33 years before retiring in 1972. He graduated from New York University in 1951. He was a World War II
veteran, having served as a major in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Jewish War Veterans and an assistant
director of Audits at the N.J. Board of Public Utilities. Mr. Lipton is survived by his wife of 57 years, Arlene;
daughters and sons-in-law, Bronna and Shelly of Mountainside and Ilise and John of Dallas; and grandchild, Sasha Dara

METZGER. Dr. Bruce L. Metzger of Morganville, Marlboro, died June 8, 2007, at Riverview Medical Center,
Red Bank. He was 65.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, Dr. Metzger obtained his bachelor's degree in history from Brooklyn College and received
his D.D.S. from New York University Dental School. After graduating from dental school, he served as a captain in the
U.S. Army and Chief of Oral Surgery at Fort Meade, Md., during the Vietnam War. He lived in Morganville for 38 years,
where he started and developed a thriving dental practice and raised four children with Miriam, his wife of 44 years.
He held many leadership roles in his community. He served as town councilman for Marlboro through the mid-1990s. He
was vice president of Jewish Federation of Western Monmouth County. He was a founding member of the Dental Staff at
CentraState Medical Center, Freehold, and served as president of the Dental Society of Monmouth Ocean County, of
which he had been a lifetime member. He was also active in raising money for many causes, including Israel Bonds,
United Jewish Appeal and The Chabad House of Western Monmouth County. Dr. Metzger was also instrumental in starting
the Maimonides Society, an association of medical professionals supporting charitable causes. His two loves were his
family and his practice of dentistry. He also enjoyed going to the gym, sitting by the pool, reading history books
and taking annual family trips to Aruba and Ocean City, Md. He was predeceased by his father, David Metzger; and his
father-in-law, Philip Fox. Dr. Metzger is survived by his wife, Miriam; children, Dr. Scott Metzger and his wife
Cheryl, Jodi Pasternak and her husband Marc, Dr. Cory Metzger Lebovitch and her husband Mark, and Daniella and her
husband Dr. Michael Adler; grandchildren, Jake, Ben, Mindy, Sam, Max, Olivia, Chloe, and Eden; mother, Anna; brother,
Steven; and mother-in-law, Ruth Fox. The Metzgers would like to thank their family, friends and loyal patients for

PLATT. Ronald J. Platt died June 14, 2007, at Shady Lane Assisted Living, Orange City, Fla. He was 75.
Born in Long Island, Mr. Platt lived in Ohio and North Brunswick before moving to Lake Mary and then Orange City, Fla.,
seven years ago. He was an art teacher at Maxim Middle School in Plainfield before retiring in 1994 after 32 years. He
served in the Army from 1953 to 1954 and was very active in New Jersey theater, including, the Circle Players,
Villagers and Off Broad Street Theater. Mr. Platt is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Sarah and John
Romagnoli of Florida, and Susannah and Alex Negron of West Deptford; and three grandchildren. Interment at Beth

SCHWARTZ. Evelyn Yeskel Schwartz, 76, of Keasbey died June 15, 2007, at the Clark Nursing and Rehabilitation
Center. She was 76.
Born in Newark, Mrs. Schwartz lived in Perth Amboy before moving to Keasbey three years ago. She was the co-owner of
Evmar Sales in Perth Amboy before retiring in 1999. Her husband, Martin, died in 1998. Mrs. Schwartz is survived by
two daughters, Cindy Vitiello of Keasbey and Debra Strubel of Perth Amboy; son, Eric Scott of Woodbridge; sister,
Tema Margolin of Old Bridge; and grandchildren, James, Rebecca, Ben, Jake and Joe. Interment at B'nai Abraham

SIEGEL. Seymour E. Siegel of Plainsboro died June 16, 2007, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in
New Brunswick. He was 85.
Born in the Bronx, Mr. Siegel was a former resident of Elizabeth. He was a graduate of City College of New York and
Rutgers University Law School. He practiced in Plainsboro, was a member of the American Bar Association and an
arbitrator in the N.J. Superior Court. He was a member of the U.S. Supreme Court Bar and was recently honored by the
Middlesex County Bar Association for his service. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a life-member of the
Military Order of the Purple Heart. He wrote the constitution and by-laws for the U.S. Army 16th Cavalry Association
and received a citation award for distinguished service from the Army. He was a member of Congregation Beth Chaim,
Workmen's Circle Branch 47, and Azure Masonic Lodge, and was a former Hebrew School teacher at Temple Beth El in
Elizabeth. Son of the late Max and Frances Siegel, Mr. Siegel is survived by his wife, Elaine Berman Siegel; son and
daughter-in-law, Gerald and Nancy Siegel of Plainsboro; grandchildren, David, Jamie and Matthew; and pet companion,

TOBIN. Mrs. Zelda Tobin died June 17, 2007, at home in West Orange. She was 81.
Born in Newark, Mrs. Tobin lived in Newark, East Orange, South Orange and Maplewood before moving to West Orange five
years ago. She was a member of the National Council of Jewish Women, the Sisterhood of Temple Sharey Tefilo Israel,
the Renaissance Group of Temple Sharey Tefilo Israel and Hadassah. She was also a volunteer at Saint Barnabas Medical
Center and the Kim Institute, East Orange. Mrs. Tobin was the beloved wife of the late Norman; devoted mother of
Nancee Gross and her husband, Philip, Cantor-Rabbi Dennis Tobin and his wife, Peggy, and the late Ann Drea Tobin; dear
sister of Sidney Turkel and his wife, Ernestine; sister-in-law of Jan Baum and her husband, Richard; cherished
grandmother of Estie, Jeremy, Michael and Amanda. Interment at King Solomon Cemetery, Clifton. Arrangements by
