CHALFIN. Mr. Joseph Chalfin died Sept. 20, 2008. He was 84.
Born in Philadelphia on April 22, 1924, Joe was a resident of Fords from 1960 to 1985, and Morganville from 1985 to 2007. He graduated from Brooklyn College and was a self-employed CPA. He was an avid Yankee fan and stamp collector.
Mr. Chalfin is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Shirley; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Debbie of Metuchen and Donald and Sadie of Port Washington, N.Y.; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Alan Rooks of Glenview, Ill.; and grandchildren, Risa, Benjamin, Brad, Alyssa, and Greg. HOROWITZ. Mr. Jack Horowitz died Sept. 28, 2008, at Mount Sinai Medical Center, Manhattan. He was 82.
Born in Manhattan, Mr. Horowitz lived in Monroe for the past 18 years. He also maintained a residence in Boyton Beach, Fla. Prior to retiring, he was a self-employed travel agent in Manhattan. He was a World War II Navy veteran.
Mr. Horowitz is survived by his wife of 60 years, Victoria Goynias Horowitz; daughter and son-in-law, Carin Lamm and Peter Gruenberger of Manhattan; sons and daughters-in-law, Jay and Marsha of Elizabeth and Steven and Gwen of Bala Cynwyd, Pa.; brother, Alfred of Boca Raton; sister, Thelma Nadborny of Arizona; and eight grandchildren. Interment at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge. Arrangements by Mount Sinai Memorial Chapels, East Brunswick.
Kuznet. Mr. Philip Kuznet died Sept. 25, 2008, in Linden. He was 87.
A lifelong resident of Linden, Mr. Kuznet founded Monarch Plumbing and Heating Co. there in 1956. He was a mason and a member of the Lafayette Lodge 27 F&AM in Rahway. He was a past president of the Linden Kiwanis Club and the New Jersey P.H.C.C., and was appointed by Gov. Brendan Byrne in 1980 to the state board of master plumbers. Mr. Kuznet served his country proudly during World War II in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific. He was also a volunteer at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Rahway division, a member of Congregation Anshe Chesed in Linden and served several tours with the volunteers for Israel Army. He was a former member of the Twin Brooks Country Club in Warren and was active in community affairs in Linden. He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth.
Mr. Kuznet is survived by his wife, Gladys; son and daughter-in-law Leonard and Susan; daughter and son-in-law, Iris and Gerald Zweiman; grandchildren, David, Jennifer, Amy, and Allison; and great-grandchildren Julie, Samuel and Jackson. LEPINSKY. Mr. Jerome Leo Lepinsky died Sept. 25, 2008, at Renaissance Gardens in Tinton Falls. He was 85.
Born in Perth Amboy, Mr. Lepinsky grew up in Fords and lived in Union from 1961 to 1998, when he moved to the Seabrook section of Tinton Falls. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and a graduate of Rutgers College of Engineering. He was a sales representative with Keer Electrical Supply of Newark until 1998, when he retired. He was a member of B'nai B'rith, and active at Seabrook Village in the welcome committee and the audio-visual group. He was predeceased by his wife of 29 years, Eileen.
Mr. Lepinsky is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Barry and Rena of North Brunswick, and Jeffrey and Adele of Hillsborough; daughter and son-in-law, Sue Ann and Michael Ellman of Manalapan; grandchildren; and his companion of five years, Evelyn Midboe. LEVITCH. Mr. Seymour Levitch died Sept. 27, 2008, at home. He was 88.
Born in Newark, Mr. Levitch lived in Millburn for 21 years before moving to the Clearbrook development in Monroe 22 years ago. He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the Signal Corps. He was a 1952 graduate of Rutgers University College of Pharmacy, with honors, and was invited to join Rho Chi, the honorary pharmaceutical society. He was an avid cribbage player and belonged to the Jewish Congregation of Clearbrook, Monroe, and the Clearbrook Safety and Security Committee. He was predeceased by his twin brother, Morton; sister, Beatrice Waxman; and nephews, Sanford Levitch and Sanford Waxman. Mr. Levitch is survived by his beloved wife, Charlotte Bolton Levitch; sons and daughters-in-law, Stuart and Carol, Richard, and David and Elaine; and grandchildren, Alison, Suzanne, Maxwell, Brianne and Eric. PORIES. Mrs. Mirjam "Miriam" Stechler Pories died Sept. 26, 2008, at Cranbury Center, Monroe. She was 84.
Born in Munich, Germany, Mrs. Pories lived in East and South Orange before moving to Monroe 22 years ago. Prior to retiring in 1986, she was a teller for Midlantic Bank, South Orange, for 23 years.
Mrs. Pories is survived by her husband of 64 years, Maximilian, and her daughter and son-in-law, Marion and Frank Budano of North Arlington. Interment at Beth Abraham Cemetery, East Brunswick. PRESSLER. Mrs Phyllis K. Klapholz Pressler died Sept. 27, 2008, at Weil-Cornell Medical Center, Manhattan. She was 77.
Born in East Orange, Mrs. Pressler lived in East Brunswick before moving to Monroe 11 years ago. Prior to retiring in 1999, she was an administrative assistant for Rutgers University, New Brunswick, for 22 years. She was a member of the board of Brandeis Women of Monroe Township, Ponds Chapter.
Mrs. Pressler is survived by her husband of 55 years, Albert; sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Dalia of Natick, Mass., and Richard and Hope of Highland Park; daughters and sons-in-law, Patrice and Paul Goldman of Wellesley, Mass., Gail Pressler of Highland Park and Joyce and John Pearl of East Brunswick; brother and sister-in-law, Sanford and Vicki Klapholz of Monroe; sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Milton Seifert of Monroe; sister-in-law, Sandy Pressler of Wayne; and eight grandchildren. Schwartz. Mrs. Sylvia Schwartz of Manalapan died Aug. 16, 2008 at her home in Covered Bridge. She was 94.
Born in Yonkers, Mrs. Schwartz was the last surviving child of Fanny and Harry Weinberger of Brooklyn. She lived in Brooklyn for 60 years then retired with her husband Max to Hollywood, Fla., for 30 years before returning to New Jersey in 2005 to be near her family. She was a supporter of Temple Shaari Emeth, Hadassah, Deborah, and the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation. Her special interests included sewing, cooking, and politics. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Max David.
Mrs. Schwartz is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Perry and Arlene of Freehold; grandchildren, Lisa Weinthal and her husband Cliff of Monroe, Dr. Jill Schwartz-Chevlin and her husband Brian of West Windsor, and Jeffrey Schwartz and his wife Stacy of Bedminster; and great-grandchildren, Ben, Jason, Lindsay, Jessica, Sabrina, Lucy and Maya. STONE. Dr. Raymond L. Stone died Sept. 22, 2008 after a long battle with cancer. He was 87 years old.
Dr. Stone, of Elizabeth, practiced medicine since 1950 and was active in state and national medical societies for more than 50 years, including Union County and New Jersey Medical Societies and the American Medical Association. A World War II veteran, he was deployed as an Army cryptographer for four years, with postings that included the Arctic Circle, Sweden, and England. A graduate of Hanehmann Medical College in Philadelphia, he pursued and promoted continuing medical education throughout his career, including holding committee membership at Seton Hall University's Graduate School of Medical Education. As a member of the American Academy of Family Practice, he recently challenged himself by maintaining certification, an octogenarian competing against newly minted doctors. His wife, Muriel, assisted him in managing the non-medical aspects of his private practice. Dr. Stone was also a former member of the Elizabeth Board of Health, a former chief of the Department of Family Practice at Elizabeth General Hospital, and an attending physician of the same department at St. Elizabeth Hospital. An avid skier and tennis player, he and his wife competed in the Senior Olympics in tennis, and together skied throughout North America.
Dr. Stone is survived by his wife of 58 years, Muriel; sons, Andrew R., David J., and Gary E.; daughters, Eileen D. and Audrey; six grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren. Interment at B'nai Israel Cemetery, Clovesville, N.Y.. Funeral arrangements by E. B. Gormley Funeral Home, Phoenicia, N.Y.

ULL. Mr. Mussie Ull died Aug. 27, 2008.
Born in Jersey City, Mussie founded Mussie's Pants Shop in 1946, and later King's Son Menswear, retiring 16 years ago to Sunrise, Fla. He was a member of Congregation B'nai Jacob, Jersey City, as well as of the Jewish War Veterans. He had a strong devotion to his family, a great business sense, a passion for the Yiddish language and music, and a zeal for life.
Mr. Ull is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Sylvia; sons, Howard and his fiancée Kathy West of Upper Arlington, Ohio, Mark and his fiancée Nanette Gaffin of Edison, and Scott and his wife Cindy of Edison; grandchildren, Ilisa, Jennifer, Julia, Pamela, Shayna and Joshua; great-grandchildren, Victoria, Abigail and Kate; sister, Ethel Ull; sister-in-law, Florence Ull; longtime employee, Eddie Burns; and many loving and wonderful friends.
