BELKOFF.
Mrs. Sarah Shirley Belkoff (née Koenigsberg) of Hillside and Tucson, Ariz., died Oct. 7, 2007.

Mrs. Belkoff was predeceased by her husband, Dr. M. Michael Belkoff. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Howard and Barbara, Dr. Laurence and Sherri and Dr. Kenneth and Sandy; and grandchildren, Jeffrey and his wife, Ariala, Robyn, Eric, Joshua, Emily, Andie, Corinne, Alexis and Kiersten. CLARE. Mrs. Roberta Clare of Iselin died Oct. 3, 2007, at home. She was 60.

Born on March 21, 1947, in Elizabeth, Mrs. Clare lived in Iselin for the past 30 years. She was a substitute elementary school teacher in Woodbridge from 1978 to 1990, and then worked as a cashier for Fortunoffs in Woodbridge Center for seven years. She was a member and past president of the Sisterhood of Temple Ohev Shalom in Colonia, a member of Temple Neve Shalom, and a lifetime member of Deborah Hospital. She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Dora (Rosenfeld) Sollish.

Mrs. Clare is survived by her husband of 37 years, Robert; son and daughter-in-law, David and Joy of Edison; daughter, Jessica of Piscataway; granddaughter, Sarah; brother, Barry Sollish; sister, Jane Golenbock; and several nieces and nephews. FLEISHMAN. Mr. Steven F. Fleishman died suddenly Oct. 3, 2007. He was 52.

Steven was born in Newark on April 16, 1955, and lived in Colonia and Perth Amboy before moving to Edison. He graduated from Middlesex County College with an associate’s degree in accounting. He loved to watch sporting events, especially baseball, football, tennis and basketball. He was an avid stamp collector, and also enjoyed bowling and tennis.

Steven is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Douglas Miller of Bridgewater; and his nephew and niece. Interment at Beth Israel Cemetery. Arrangements by Bruce C. VanArsdale Funeral Home, Somerville.

KORANSKY. Mr. Jerome Koransky of Monroe, formerly of Paterson, died Sept. 24, 2007. He was 91.

Mr. Koransky was the executive director of Temple Emanuel in Paterson, founder of Aristocrat Formal Wear, and past president of Jewish Family Services of Northern New Jersey. He was a captain in the U.S. Army during World War II, and continued service during the Korean War.

Mr. Koransky is survived by his wife of 61 years, Florence; sons and daughters-in-law, Edward and Madeleine, Lester and Maria and Howard and Carol; daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Louis Beckerman; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. LEBOWITZ. Mr. Michael Lebowitz of Manalapan, formerly of Parsippany and Newark, died Oct. 4, 2007, at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston. He was 90.

Born in what is now known as Belarus, Mr. Lebowitz was a Holocaust survivor. During World War II, he was a member of the Bielski Partisans and participated in the rescue of over 1,200 Jews. He came to the United States in 1948 and settled in Newark, where he owned several businesses before retiring in 1979. He divided his time between Manalapan and Florida.

Mr. Lebowitz is survived by his wife of 65 Years, Naomi (née Lungen); sons, Joel and Robert; and grandchildren, David Lee and Emily Rachel. Interment at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin. Arrangements by Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan.

LEBOWITZ. Mrs. Ruth Lebowitz died Sept. 25, 2007, in the Daughters of Israel Geriatric Center, West Orange. She was 94.

Born in New York City, Mrs. Lebowitz lived there and in Newark, Irvington, Ocean, Woodbridge, Conn., and Summit before moving to West Orange a month ago. She was a member of Hadassah and the League for the Handicap (Essex County). She was predeceased by her husband, Louis.

Mrs. Lebowitz is survived by her children, Alan Lebowitz, Dr. Paul Lebowitz, and Gloria Friedman; sister, Phyllis Brodsky; brother, Larry Weiss; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Interment at Beth David Cemetery, Kenilworth. Arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union. RAFF. Mrs. Helen Raff of West Orange died Oct. 6, 2007, at the Daughters of Israel, West Orange. She was 88.

Born in Poland, Mrs. Raff settled in Newark upon arriving in the U.S. and later lived in Elizabeth before moving to West Orange six years ago. A Holocaust survivor, she was a member of the Holocaust Survivors Group at the Union YMHA. She and her late husband, Harry, owned and operated Harry’s, a grocery store in Newark, for 20 years. Later, she was a sales associate for Saks in Millburn for 10 years. She retired 15 years ago. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry, and daughter, Molly Feuer.

Mrs. Raff is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Anna and Martin Blume; grandchildren, Sianna, Erynn and Helaina; and great-grandchildren, Maia, Zoe and Owen. Interment at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge. Arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union.

ROSS. Dr. Howard Ross of Somerset died Sept. 30, 2007, at Morristown Memorial Hospital, Morristown. He was 80.

Born in Brooklyn, Dr. Ross lived in Springfield for most of his married life before moving to Somerset three years ago. He was a dentist with a private practice in Union for 40 years, retiring in 1991. He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II. He attended Rutgers University in New Brunswick, then the New York University College of Dentistry, where he received a D.D.S. in 1950. He was a member of the Temple Beth Ahm Men’s Club of Springfield, the American Dental Association and the New Jersey and Union County Dental societies, and was a mediator for New Jersey County Courts.

Dr. Ross is survived by his wife, Shirley (nŽe Weinstein); daughters and sons-in-law, Laurie Ross and Steven Zimmerman, and Lynn and Ben Lubing; brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Bernard and Mickey Ross; and grandchildren, Pam, Brian and Josh. Interment at King Solomon Cemetery, Clifton. Arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union. ROTHSTEIN. Mr. Norman Rothstein of East Hanover died Oct. 1, 2007, at St. Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston. He was 69.

Born in Newark, Mr. Rothstein lived in Union before moving to East Hanover 20 years ago. He owned and operated Sterling Press in Orange for 30 years before retiring five years ago. He was a graduate of Weequahic High School and served in the Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a life member of the Knights of Pythias Roth Lodge and Orange Mountain Lodge and an avid Giants fan. He enjoyed collecting art, traveling the world with his late wife, Betty, and his trips to Las Vegas. His sisters remember him as a most loving brother and a wonderful man. His wife, Betty (Roth) died in 1996.

Mr. Rothstein is survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Essie and Martin Greenberg, Marilyn and Alvin Weigel, and Libby and Norman Herman; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Estelle Roth; and many cherished nieces and nephews. Interment at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin. Arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union.

WALDMAN. Rose Linkoff Waldman Mother and grandmother, longtime hospital volunteer, 90 Rose Linkoff Waldman, the Go-Go-Grandma, passed away of natural causes on Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007, at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle at 90 years young. She was 90.

Born in New York City on Nov. 18, 1916, to Frances and Joseph Linkoff, Rose belonged to a close family with countless cousins whom she remained in touch with throughout her life. Rose and her husband, Morris, raised their family in Hillside. Morris co-owned Waldman Bros grocery with his brother, Manny, on Mulberry Street in Newark for more than 45 years. In 1976, Rose and Morris retired to Covered Bridge in Manalapan, where she lived for more than 31 years. She loved her card games, concerts and arts programs. She was active with many charities, including Deborah Hospital and Hadassah, and volunteered for more than 20 years at CentraState Medical Center in Freehold. In her 80s, Rose tutored kindergartners each week in reading. Her family admired her dedication to volunteering, community service and Jewish tradition. Her husband of 61 years, Morris, died in 2000.

Rose is survived by her children, Hadiyah Carlyle of Seattle and Paul Waldman of New Orleans; grandchildren, Wendy and Reuven Carlyle of Seattle, David Waldman of Denver, Kevin Waldman of San Francisco and Sara Waldman of Atlanta; four great-grandchildren; and cousins in Israel, New York, New Jersey, Florida and California. Rose donated her body to the University of Washington in Seattle for research. WEINICK. Mrs. Hattie (Kohen) Weinick of East Brunswick died Sept. 20, 2007, at Care One Senior Center, Jackson. She was 97.

Born in Newark, Mrs. Weinick lived in West Palm Beach, Fla., before moving to East Brunswick in 1999. She was employed for many years as an administrator for the Newark Housing Authority before retiring in 1973. She kept herself active by doing needlepoint, playing Mah Jongg and spending time with her children and grandchildren. For many years, she was active as a fundraiser for the Boys Clubs of Newark. Her husband, Sam, died in 1997; her daughter, Norma Mironov, died in 1991.

Mrs. Weinick is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Leonard and Nancy of Jackson, and Lewis and Iris of Manchester; brother, Milton Kohen of Roseland; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Interment at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge. Arrangements by Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel, New Brunswick.
