COHEN. Mr. Jerome M. Cohen died Oct. 9, 2008 at St. Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick. He was 76.

 

Born in Paterson, Mr. Cohen lived in Brick and Seattle before moving to Somerset in 2008. He worked in the advertising department at "Morristown Daily Record" in Morristown for more than 12 years. He also worked as an art teacher in South Jersey. He graduated from Jersey City State College with a bachelor's degree in education. He was a veteran of the Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed reading about history, collecting stamps, and art. His brother, David N., died in 1998.

 

Mr. Cohen is survived by his sister-in-law, Barbara Cohen; nieces and nephews, Deborah Cohen, Harvey S. Cohen and Emily Kramer; and four grand-nieces and nephew. Interment at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin. Arrangements by Bruce C. VanArsdale Funeral Home, Somerville.

 

EBER. Mr. Marc R. Eber died unexpectedly Sept. 21, 2008. He was 53.

 

A graduate of Lakewood High School, Marc attended Fairleigh Dickinson University. He was a renowned public speaker, and he worked with the National Kitchen and Bath Association traveling the country teaching his passion for kitchen design. In 1997, he opened Builders' Kitchens of N.J., a successful design firm in Ocean. A man passionate about living life to the fullest, he was a member of Hillel's Angels, a tightly knit motorcycle club. He was also very active keeping up the heritage of his hometown with the Lakewood Historical Society. He was predeceased by his mother, Martha, and his sister, Lynda.

 

Marc is survived by his beloved wife, Dr. Shari Roseff-Eber; their daughter, Skylar of Lakewood; his daughter, Jayme of Providence, R.I.; and his father, Larry of Lakewood. Interment at Mount Sinai Cemetery. Arrangements by Belkoff-Goldstein Funeral Chapel, Lakewood. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, MS Foundation, or the Lakewood Heritage Museum.

 

EMIN. Mrs. Merilyn Emin died Oct. 7, 2008, in Livingston.

Born in New Brunswick, Mrs. Emin lived in Newark and Millburn before moving to South Orange 14 years ago. She was a member of the Sisterhood and a Temple member of Temple B'nai Israel in Millburn. She was predeceased by her husband, Michael.

 

Mrs. Emin is survived by her sons, Barry and Kenneth; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Interment at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge. Arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union.

 

GROSSMAN. Mr. Bernard A. Grossman died Sept. 23, 2008, in Mt. Airy, N.C. He was 91.


Born in Brooklyn, Mr. Grossman lived there until he joined the military in 1943, serving in the Army Air Corps. He was based in England as a navigator of a B-17 Flying Fortress attached to the 8th Air Force. He flew combat missions over enemy-occupied territory and while returning from a combat mission was shot down and captured by the Germans. He was a POW until liberated in 1945. After his liberation, he was a meteorologist for the Air Force. In 1960, he was stationed in Ramstein Base in Germany until 1965. He lived in Brooklyn and Marlboro before moving to Lakewood in 1988. Bernard's many decorations included the Air Medal, European Theater Ribbon with 1 Star, and American Defense Service Medal. He was a true war hero. He was a member of the Lakewood Jewish War Veterans. His beloved wife, Marian, died in 2005.

 

Mr. Grossman is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Theodore and Cindy of Hamilton, Ohio; daughter and son-in-law, Tracy and Donald Hicks of Mt. Airy, N.C.; grandchildren, Michael, Keith, Emily, Hannah, and Ashley; and one great-grandson. Interment at Beth Olam Memorial Park, Lakewood. Lavenhar. Mr. Harold Lavenhar died Oct. 12, 2008, at Overlook Hospital. He was 88.

Born in New York City, Mr. Lavenhar lived in Plainfield for 50 years before moving to Fanwood. A World War II veteran, he was a tank sergeant who served in Italy and North Africa. An antiques collector, artist, and entrepreneur, he owned and managed Pilsen's Confectionary Store in Plainfield with his wife, Phyllis, for nine years. He also owned and managed several other businesses.

 

Mr. Lavenhar is survived by his sons, Paul of Scotch Plains and Steven of Vienna, Va.; daughters-in-law, Ellen Hansen and Sandra Palmer; grandchildren, Jacob, Lindsay and Sara; and sister, Myra Gingold of Freehold. Interment at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge.Arrangements by Higgins Home for Funerals, Plainfield. LEVIN. Mrs. Edythe Levin died Oct. 15, 2008. She was 83. Edythe owned a travel agency in Edison for many years. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert Levin.


Mrs. Levin is survived by her son, Dr. Brandt Levin; daughter, Lisa Katz; and grandchildren, Jordon and Alana Katz, and Marissa and Linsday Levin. Interment at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin. Arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union.

 

ROSEN. Mr. Nathan Rosen died Sept. 23, 2008, at Newton Memorial Hospital. He was 83.


Born in Brooklyn, Mr. Rosen was a longtime Newton resident. He and his wife, Adele, were the owners/operators of Lynn Cleaners in Newton before his retirement in 1997. Lynn Cleaners was started by Adele's father in 1955. A member of many international and United States dry cleaner associations, Mr. Rosen was also a former eastern vice president for the United States for the International Dry Cleaners Congress. He was a United States Army Air Force veteran and a member of the 315th Bomb Wing Association. A former volunteer at Newton Memorial Hospital, he also belonged to the Harmony Lodge 8 F&AM and the Branchville Businessman's Club, where he was named "Man of the Year." His daughter-in-law, Barbara Panzer, died in 2005; his brother, Jack, died in 2004.

 

Mr. Rosen is survived by his wife of 53 years, Adele Rappaport Rosen; sons, Jeffry of Syosset, N.Y., and Stuart of Glendale, Calif.; brother, Sidney of Toms River; sister, Lillian Sterling of Boca Raton, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. Interment at Beth Israel Memorial Park, Woodbridge. Arrangements by Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, Newton. TOKER. Mrs. Averil Fay Toker died Oct. 8, 2008, at home. She was 87.

Born in Elizabeth, Ms. Toker lived there before moving to Monroe 25 years ago. Prior to retiring in 1980, she was a learning disability specialist for the N.J. State Department of Education, where she worked for many years. She also previously taught in the Franklin School, Rahway. She was predeceased by her brother, Stanley Toker, and a sister, Estelle Gottlieb.

 

Ms. Toker is survived by her sister, Hazel Levine, and many nieces and nephews. Interment at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin. Arangements by Mount Sinai Memorial Chapels, East Brunswick.

 

ZWEIMAN. Mr. Leopold Zweiman died Sept. 9, 2008, in Regency Heritage, Somerset. He was 89.

 

Born in West New York, Mr. Zweiman lived in River Vale and Toms River before moving to Somerset four years ago. He was employed as a traffic manager with Eastern Freight, Carlstadt. A World War II veteran, he belonged to the Jewish War Veterans and served as a volunteer for the River Vale Volunteer Ambulance Squad from 1971 to 1990 and the Toms River Volunteer Ambulance Squad from 1990 to 2000. He was predeceased by his wife, Mabel.

 

Mr. Zweiman is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, David and Anne, Gerald and Iris, and William and Mary; brother, Robert M.; and grandchildren, Jessica, Dara, Brett, Amy, Allison, Benjamin and Daniel. Interment at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge. Arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston.
