Hadassah Honors 3 in Annual Myrtle Wreath Award Luncheon

By Dan Newman

At 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, the Southern New Jersey Region of Hadassah will hold its Annual Myrtle Wreath Award Luncheon at the Pines Manor in Edison.

The award is a prestigious tribute and this year, three individuals who have made significant contributions to Jewish society in our country, and abroad will be honored.

Chief Justice Deborah T. Poritz was the first New Jersey woman Attorney General and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of New Jersey. In 2000, she was awarded the first Brooklyn College Presidential Medal and four years later, she was honored by the University of Pennsylvania Law when her portrait was unveiled and hung at the Law School. She also sits on the Advisory Panel established by Governor Jon Corzine to consider candidates for state judicial office.

Andrew Getraer recently started his seventh year as the executive director of Rutgers Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life. Under Getraer's guidance, Hillel has become the largest student organization at the school. Getraer is a former national director of Gesher City, an organization for young Jewish adults. He recently appeared on The History Channel discussing geothermal energy.

Danielle Josephs recently earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Middle Eastern Studies and is currently working toward becoming a Middle East negotiator/policymaker. She founded the Middle East Coexistence House with the goal of bridging the gap between Jewish/Israeli and Arab/Muslim/Christian women at Rutgers.

Diane Strumeyer, publicity chairperson for the event, said that the honorees were chosen by a committee.

"The three that were chosen for the award really have excelled in their fields and it's nice we're able to honor them for all that they have done," Strumeyer said.
