Community activities: Recently started first term as president of Har Sinai Temple. A four-year board member of Jewish Family and Children's Service of Mercer County. Former board member of the Jewish Community Center of Delaware Valley. Hobbies: "I like to travel, especially to the battlefields of the Civil War." Self-portrait: "I'm a third-generation member of Har Sinai Temple, where my grandfather was a member of the Board of Trustees and my father was president from 1974 to 1976. When I deal with people, I like to listen to what they have to say. Then I make decisions about what to do. If everybody tells me what their positions are, then I come to a conclusion, which would be the best for the temple. That's how I serve in my capacity as president." Motto: "Always be positive." Greatest accomplishment: "My family -- wife and children." Bad habits: "Putting off to tomorrow what I can do today." Favorite TV: Any of the wonderful programming on NJN." Favorite food: "Italian and seafood." Best childhood memory: "My first trip to Washington, D.C. to tour the White House and Capitol. It was a family trip with my parents in 1958, when Eisenhower was president. It was a time before there was the security there is today. We toured the White House. They took us through the main hallway and where the diplomatic receptions are held and let us walk out the front door onto the lawn. I don't know if they do that anymore." People don't know that... "I'm fearful of heights. Hiking isn't my favorite thing." Last book I read: "1776" by David McCullough. The biggest asset in the local Jewish community: "Our congregation, Har Sinai. It has a wonderful professional staff and lay leaders." The biggest problem in the local Jewish communities: "Bringing unaffiliated families into the congregation and getting people involved." If I had more time I would... "Join the rabbi in study sessions he holds in the afternoon." |
